The Section of Infectious Diseases conducts cutting edge research in the area of HIV and STIs, ranging from basic science and translational research to international clinical research studies. Take a look at some of the exciting work our faculty are working on in the area of HIV\/STI.<\/p>\n

Deborah Anderson, PhD<\/a><\/p>\n

Dr. Anderson studies the immune defense of the genital tract against sexually-transmitted pathogens. We are currently working with epithelial cell lines and HIV-1 infection models.<\/p>\n


\"\"<\/a><\/a>Sabrina Assoumou, MD, MPH<\/a><\/p>\n

Dr. Assoumou’s research focuses on medical complications of substance use including HIV and Hepatitis C virus (HCV).<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\" Archana Asundi, MD<\/a><\/p>\n

Her individual research program focuses on investigating cardiometabolic comorbidities and weight gain\/obesity among people living with HIV. <\/span>She also engages in quality improvement and continuing medical education in the area of HIV and aging with several projects ongoing targeted around improvement of health-related quality of life among people aging with HIV.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mari Lynn Drainoni, PhD<\/a><\/p>\n

Dr. Drainoni’s areas of expertise include the conduct of implementation research, qualitative research methods and mixed method studies with a focus on integrating research into practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rachel Epstein, MD, MScE <\/a><\/p>\n

Dr. Epstein is a clinician-scientist working to utilize large data sets and decision modelling to inform policy and program design to improve care for individuals with Hepatitis C, HIV, and substance use, with a particular focus on pregnant women and youth.<\/p>\n

\"\" Andrew Henderson, PhD<\/a><\/p>\n

Dr. Henderson’s research focuses on cellular mechanisms that regulate HIV replication and transcription. Current projects include exploring how signaling influences HIV infection and latency, devising strategies for long-term repression of HIV provirus and characterizing the transcriptional status of HIV provirus in T cell and macrophage subsets.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\" Jai Marathe, MBBS<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Marathe’s current research focuses on HIV transmission across reproductive mucosa and the potential for topical use of various plant-derived antibodies (plantibodies) in prevention of HIV infection.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Manish Sagar, MD<\/a><\/p>\n

Dr. Sagar’s laboratory is primarily interested in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) mucosal HIV-1 transmission and antibodies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
