Those topics are central to proficiency in the practice of infectious diseases as determined by the ABIM recommendations. Lectures are given by experts in the field and include case-based board review questions; all lectures are provided for reference to the fellows. Topics include HIV, hepatitis, travel medicine, and STDs. With respect to HIV, the lectures cover a wide range of related topics such as metabolic complications, dermatologic manifestations, and drug resistance. Cases with complicated resistance patterns are also reviewed. The conference provides an overview of active research conducted in the section, and also allows for a lively discussion of different hypotheses and approaches, providing feedback to the presenter and instruction for trainees on critical thinking.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Frequency<\/b>: 1st Thursday, 12-1 PM<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>______________________________________________________________________________<\/b><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Antibiotic Rounds <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dr. Tamar Barlam, Chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases and Director of Antibiotic Stewardship, leads informal rounds with the fellows, where they are invited to discuss antibiotic management issues related to their current patients. These small group meetings provide a forum to discuss applied principles of antibiotic usage, quality assurance, and performance improvement. These meetings are felt to be one of the highlights of the fellows\u2019 clinical experiences and a chance to learn about antibiotics from a senior clinician with vast experience.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Frequency:<\/b> 1st and 3rd Fridays, 8 &#8211; 9 AM<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><a id=\"fellowdirector\"><\/a>______________________________________________________________________________<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Clinical Case Conference and Case Forum<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For the first half of our joint adult and pediatric ID conference, fellows provide a formal case presentation, identify a clinical or research question the case has raised, and present a review of relevant literature. Fellows choose the case and topic for discussion in collaboration with an attending physician. Upon the presentation&#8217;s conclusion, fellows and faculty on service initiative an informal forum to discuss active cases and take advantage of the collective wisdom of faculty and fellows.
