\"\"The Department of Medicine and the Section of Infectious Diseases, in particular, are leaders in research. The School of Medicine had approximately $41 million dollars in research funding and Boston Medical Center $27 million dollars. The Department of Medicine has about $100 million dollars in research funding per year.<\/p>\n

Trainees complete a scholarly project as part of their fellowship training.\u00a0 Fellow applicants are encouraged to choose the area of concentration (below) that is consistent with their interests. Please examine the academic profiles of our faculty to identify potential mentors you would like to meet during your interview. <\/strong>Our program has many opportunities for research and mentorship across different areas of Infectious Disease, and cross-collaboration with other departments. More information can be provided upon request.<\/p>\n

For fellows interested in a research-based academic career \u2013 either clinical or bench research \u2013 we believe three years of training (i.e., at least one year beyond the core 2-year ID fellowship) is a minimal requirement to begin an independent research career. Early identification of mentors will allow us to explore options for funding beyond the second year.<\/p>\n
