The program recognizes promising early-stage research and investigators whose innovative work has the potential to generate impactful data and position them for future funding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span>Dr. Heaphy\u2019s project, <\/span><strong><span>\u201cDefining Aging-Associated Stromal Niches Linked to Aggressive Prostate Cancer,\u201d<\/span><\/strong><span> will examine how age-related changes in the tumor microenvironment may contribute to aggressive prostate cancer and disparities in health outcomes.<\/span>Using a cohort of prostate cancer tissue from Boston Medical Center (BMC) patients<span>, the study will investigate how aging-associated cellular changes, extracellular matrix remodeling, and immune suppression interact to create conditions that promote cancer progression.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please join us in congratulating Christopher Heaphy, PhD, a recipient of this year\u2019s BMC and Department of Medicine Pilot Grant.
