{"id":4186,"date":"2020-11-18T16:17:23","date_gmt":"2020-11-18T21:17:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gsi\/?p=4186"},"modified":"2020-11-18T16:17:23","modified_gmt":"2020-11-18T21:17:23","slug":"gsi-research-symposium-2020-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gsi\/2020\/11\/18\/gsi-research-symposium-2020-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"GSI Research Symposium 2020 Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gsi\/initiatives\/research-symposium\/\">Annual GSI Research Symposium<\/a> was successfully held virtually on November 14th, 2020.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were 111 registrations and an average 56 concurrent viewers over the span of the webinar event. \u00a0The symposium began with a word from our sponsor, Illumina, with a <a href=\"\/gsi\/files\/2020\/11\/BU-GSI-Symposium-12NOV2020.pdf\">Slide Presentation<\/a> introducing the new NextSeq2000 system<span>\u00a0<\/span>now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/microarray\/services\/illumina-library-prep-sequencing\/\">here<\/a> at the BUSM Microarray and Sequencing Resource (MSR).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After Dean Dr. Karen Antman kicked off the symposium with opening remarks, we had a fantastic set of talks from several new BU faculty working in the genetics and genomics fields in the first session.\u00a0 There were then 16 superb lightning talks by graduate students and postdocs from the various basic research departments and graduate programs.\u00a0 If you wish to view the recording of the GSI symposium, please email<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:gsi@bu.edu\">gsi@bu.edu<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>for the link to the video.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to Illumina, the GSI and MSR held an RNA-seq award contest, and the winners are:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kristyn\u00a0 Borrelli (Bryant lab, Pharm &amp; Exp. Ther),\u00a0 Joseph Kern (Varelas lab, Biochem), \u00a0Stephen Ross (Muhlberger lab, Microbiology), Marc Vittoria (Ganem lab, Pharm &amp; Exp.
