\"\"Graduate Medical Sciences welcomed Lauren Celano, CEO of Propel Careers<\/a>, to campus on Wednesday, Feb. 21 for “Looking Your Best on Paper: Building a Resum\u00e9 for Industry and a CV for Academia.” The event was sponsored by the Community Catalyst Center<\/a> (C3) and Boston University Broadening Experiences in Scientific Training<\/a> (BU’s BEST).<\/p>\n

Eighteen students from a variety of GMS master’s and PhD programs attended the interactive event, which was tailored toward students seeking careers across a range of scientific paths: research-intensive roles, teaching roles, bench research roles, non-bench research roles, business development, marketing, consulting, product\/project management roles, clinical roles and more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the workshop, Lauren discussed how to highlight experiences and skills on a resume and CV and the importance of tailoring these documents for specific roles. She also provided advice regarding formatting, as well as several “do’s and don’ts” for resume and CV building.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The event included poll questions for audience participation, as well as time for Q&A. The attending students asked plenty of questions and were extremely engaged from start to finish. C3 provided a sandwich lunch for all attendees. \"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

Lauren, a BU alumna, is a resum\u00e9, CV and career coaching pro, reviewing hundreds of resum\u00e9s each week for people seeking careers in life sciences. She co-founded Propel Careers in 2009 with the desire of helping people find their way in the life sciences, encouraging STEM careers for women and underrepresented groups, and developing the next generation of life sciences leaders. She has recruited for over 60 innovative life sciences organizations to help them hire talent and has coached thousands of students, postdocs, medical residents and professionals to advance their careers.<\/span><\/p>\n
