Graduate Medical Sciences is proud to celebrate Black History Month!<\/p>\n
This year marks the 48th<\/sup> annual Black History Month since it was federally recognized in 1976. The 2024 theme of Black History Month, \u201cAfrican Americans and the Arts,\u201d highlights \u201cthe art of resistance,\u201d and \u201cthe artists who used their crafts to uplift the race, speak truth to power and inspire a nation,\u201d according to the National Museum of African American History and Culture<\/a>.<\/p>\n Below, we have highlighted several Black History Month events to add to your calendar, as well as other resources, initiatives, and organizations both on- and off-campus. Learn more and register here<\/a>!<\/p>\n The Second Annual Rebecca Lee Crumpler Alumni Lecture<\/a> This lecture, sponsored by the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Diversity & Inclusion Office, honors alumna Rebecca Lee Crumpler, who was the Black woman to graduate from a US medical school. The degree was awarded by the New England Female Medical College, a pioneering institution that a decade later merged with Boston University and formed the core of Boston University\u2019s Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.<\/span><\/p>\n Loretta Jackson-Williams, MD, PhD, FACEP, will join us for this year’s lecture.
