To our GMS community,<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve made it to the final days of another semester at GMS! The past months have certainly been busy, filled with classes, on-campus events, research, and studying. We have been thrilled to share each moment with you and are proud to see just how much you\u2019re making a difference in your studies and work each day.<\/p>\n

This semester, we hosted a variety of events through the Community Catalyst Center<\/a>, Student Affairs<\/a>, and partnerships with many cross-campus organizations. The semester began with Orientation<\/a>, where we welcomed a brand-new cohort of master\u2019s and PhD students to campus. Orientation also included our annual Fall Resource Fair, followed by a Welcome BBQ<\/a> the next week cohosted by the School of Public Health.<\/p>\n

In September, the Community Catalyst Center hosted its second-annual Gear-Up Week<\/a>, with five different events to welcome students to the new semester: a Sip N\u2019 Study Raffle, Explore the South End walking tours, Dr. Young\u2019s \u201cThriving, Not Just Surviving, in Graduate School\u201d study skills session, and the Newbury Center\u2019s<\/a> First-Gen Orientation. The week finished up with a smash-hit Fall Kick-off Pizza Party on Talbot Green.<\/p>\n

Later in the month, Student Affairs hosted a movie screening of \u201cOf Medicine and Miracles\u201d and a Fall into Self-Care wellness event. September also marked the beginning of C3\u2019s month affinity group meetings for gFIRST<\/a>, gMAV<\/a>, gSOC<\/a>, gDAG<\/a>, gGLOBAL<\/a>, and gPLUS<\/a>. The month ended with a Free Naloxone Administration Training, hosted in partnership with the School of Public Health and the Goldman School of Dental Medicine.<\/p>\n

Toward the middle of the semester, we hosted a Financial Fitness Workshop for students alongside Student Financial Services. Student Affairs also hosted its semesterly Midterms De-Stress Healthy Snack Break and organized GMS\u2019 first-ever Trick-or-Treat event<\/a> in time for Halloween. The event brought students to 10 different locations in the L-building to meet various offices and student resources (and, of course, pick up candy). From the end of October into early November, the Diversity & Inclusion Office<\/a> and Student Wellbeing hosted five different workshops for students during their \u201cFostering Life Skills While Maintaining Personal Identity in Medicine and Biomedical Sciences\u201d series.<\/p>\n

November marked the BU-wide First-Generation College Celebration Week<\/a>, with various events hosted by the Newbury Center and other offices across both campuses. At GMS, C3 hosted a First-Gen Student CV & Resume Workshop in L-306. We rounded out the month with our annual \u201cEnd-of-Semester Mix & Mingle\u201d social<\/a>, which brought over 160 students, faculty and staff together for a lively evening of appetizers, drinks, games, live music and a raffle in Hiebert Lounge.<\/p>\n

In December, we welcomed alumna Chadene Tremaglio, PhD<\/a>, back to campus for a career talk sponsored by BU Broadening Experiences in Scientific Training (BU\u2019s BEST). Student Affairs hosted its yearly Recommended Reads During Intersession holiday raffle<\/a>, as well as a Finals De-Stress Cozy Snack Break. C3 closed out its semester programming with a cookie and Barnes & Noble raffle event. Throughout the semester, Student Affairs also co-sponsored monthly Third Thursday Arts events on the Medical Campus with the BU Arts Initiative.<\/p>\n

BU alum Drew Weismann (CAMED \u201987, GRS \u201987, Hon \u201923), who earned both an MD and a PhD from the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine<\/a> alongside research collaborator Katalin Karik\u00f3. We highlighted several students and faculty in GMS Spotlights articles<\/a>. We were also thrilled to announce our new GMS graphic design, designed by GMS Marketing & Communications in partnership with the larger BU Marketing & Communications team.<\/p>\n

We look forward to seeing you continue to thrive and grow as students, researchers, future clinicians and community members at GMS.
