Dr. Navalta is also a clinical associate professor of psychiatry within the Boston University Chobanian &amp; Avedisian School of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Project EDUCATE aims to train the next generation of mental health counselors to deliver culturally-informed and trauma-informed behavioral health care services to children, adolescents and young adults in medically underserved, urban areas. The project will partner MHCBM students with the <a href=\"https:\/\/teamupforchildren.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TEAM UP initiative<\/a> at Boston Medical Center, which integrates behavioral health care into primary care practices at community health centers. Ultimately, Project EDUCATE will work to expand student training opportunities, increase the current behavioral health care provider work force and improve access to and engagement in behavioral health care treatment for youth with diverse race or ethnicity, culture, language and service needs in the Greater Boston area.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Navalta\u2019s area of expertise is in mental health disorders of childhood and adolescence. He has a strong interest in the neurobiological and psychosocial consequences of early psychological trauma as well as effective interventions for such sequelae.
