{"id":92832,"date":"2023-04-10T10:29:39","date_gmt":"2023-04-10T14:29:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/?p=92832"},"modified":"2023-04-10T10:29:45","modified_gmt":"2023-04-10T14:29:45","slug":"a-look-back-at-2023-graduate-professional-student-appreciation-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/2023\/04\/10\/a-look-back-at-2023-graduate-professional-student-appreciation-week\/","title":{"rendered":"A Look Back At 2023 Graduate &#038; Professional Student Appreciation Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Graduate Medical Sciences and the Community Catalyst Center were thrilled to celebrate our students during this year\u2019s Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, recognized from April 3 to 7.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the week, GMS, C3 and our collaborators hosted a variety of events that brought students together for networking, professional development and community connection.<\/p>\n<p>Check out a full recap of the week\u2019s program:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Monday, April 3:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2023\/04\/Picture1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"174\" class=\" wp-image-92833 alignleft\" \/>Coffee, Conversation &amp; Coffee Cake with the GMS Associate Provost &amp; Dean<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Students had two opportunities to chat with Dr. Jamie McKnight, associate provost and dean of Graduate Medical Sciences, to mark the first day of GPAW.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2023\/04\/Picture2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"168\" class=\" wp-image-92834 alignright\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr. McKnight was excited for the chance to chat with students across many GMS programs over a breakfast or lunchtime coffee and coffee cake snack.<\/p>\n<p>The event was hosted in L-311 from 11 a.m. to noon and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Wednesday, April 5:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Professional Headshots with C3 and the WPDC<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The Community Catalyst Center teamed up with the Women\u2019s Professional Development Committee for this year\u2019s Professional Headshot Event.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2023\/04\/Picture3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"241\" height=\"181\" class=\" wp-image-92835 alignleft\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hosted in the Godley Digital Media Studio (L-302A), the three-hour event saw registration slots fill fast. However, BUMC<\/p>\n<p>Photographer David Keough ran the event so smoothly that he could fit in several walk-in headshots, too. Overall, 64 students arrived for headshots.<\/p>\n<p>Attending students told us that they appreciated the opportunity to take an updated headshot, and that they\u2019re looking forward to more headshot opportunities in the future.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><u>BUMC First-Gen Graduate &amp; Professional Student Networking Dinner<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The Newbury Center came to campus on Wednesday, April 5 to host a networking dinner for first-generation graduate &amp; professional students at BUMC.<\/p>\n<p>Students were invited to register in advance for the event, which was sold out on Eventbrite. The event was hosted in Hiebert Lounge, on the 14<sup>th<\/sup> floor of the Instructional Building.<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2023\/04\/Picture4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"184\" class=\" wp-image-92836 alignright\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It provided an opportunity for students from GMS to mingle with first-gen peers from the School of Public Health, the Chobanian &amp; Avedisian School of Medicine and the Goldman School of Dental Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, it was a chance to come together and celebrate the BUMC Terrier F1RSTs community.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Thursday, April 6<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong><u>Grab \u2018N Go Cookies<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2023\/04\/Picture5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"253\" height=\"190\" class=\" wp-image-92837 alignleft\" \/>GMS Student Affairs teamed up with Chobanian &amp; Avedisian SOM Student Affairs and School of Public Health Graduate Student Life for a grab-and-go cookie event in the L-Building Lobby.<\/p>\n<p>Students from all three schools could stop by the table anytime from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to pick up a free cookie, provided by Chequers.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the event, the table was almost completely out of cookies!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Friday, April 7<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong><u>Outdoor Fun Raffle<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2023\/04\/Picture6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"261\" class=\" wp-image-92838 alignright\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Students who stopped by the GMS Suite (L-317) on Friday, April 7 had the chance to enter a raffle for one of two outdoor prizes: a BU-themed cornhole set or a BU-themed Kubb Viking Chess set.<\/p>\n<p>The raffle was open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. We\u2019ll select winners throughout the next week and notify the lucky students!<\/p>\n<p>We are excited to celebrate the skills, strengths and successes of our GMS student community during Graduate &amp; Professional Student Appreciation Week and every week.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/students\/gms-calendar\/\"><strong>GMS Calendar<\/strong><\/a> to see even more events happening on our campus and beyond through the end of the semester.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Graduate Medical Sciences and the Community Catalyst Center were thrilled to celebrate our students during this year\u2019s Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, recognized from April 3 to 7.
