{"id":89825,"date":"2022-10-07T17:04:27","date_gmt":"2022-10-07T21:04:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/?p=89825"},"modified":"2022-10-07T17:04:27","modified_gmt":"2022-10-07T21:04:27","slug":"dollar-and-ense-october-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/2022\/10\/07\/dollar-and-ense-october-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Dollar$ and $ense: October 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 align=\"center\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><b><span>2022-2023 COA Increase Appeal Process &#8211; Now Open!<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span>Student Financial Services has begun reviewing Cost of Attendance (COA) Increase appeals for the\u202f2022-23\u202facademic year.\u202fYou can view the information about the appeal process, qualifying expenses that can be considered,\u00a0<span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markn2b146hbt\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">and<\/span>\u00a0access the\u202f2022-23\u202f<\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/osfs\/cost-of-attendance-bot\/cost-of-attendance-coa-increase-request-form\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"0\">Cost of Attendance Increase Request form<\/a><\/span><span>\u00a0on our website. \u202fPlease keep in mind these general reminders about the Cost of Attendance appeal process:\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span>You are not required to complete the\u202fCOA\u202fAppeal Request Form if your expenses do not exceed the\u00a0<\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/osfs\/cost-of-attendance-bot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"1\">standard cost of attendance<\/a><\/span><span>\u00a0for your program.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Be sure to include documentation, as missing or incomplete documentation may delay the review\u00a0<span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markn2b146hbt\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">and<\/span>\u00a0decision of your appeal.\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Not all expenses will be reviewed with your appeal request. Unallowable expenses are listed on the Cost of Attendance Increase Request page (linked above)\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>A determination with respect to your appeal will be sent to you via email within 10 business days\u202f<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>If you have any questions about this process, please contact our\u00a0<\/span><span>office at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:osfs-gms@bu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"2\">osfs-gms@bu.edu<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 align=\"center\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><b><span>Complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span>The\u202f<\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"3\">2023-2024 FAFSA<\/a><\/span><span>\u202fis now open as of October 1st. If you plan on using Federal Direct Unsubsidized\u00a0<span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markn2b146hbt\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">and<\/span>\/or Federal Graduate PLUS Loan funds during the 2023-2024 academic year (July 1, 2023 \u2013 June 30, 2024), you will need to complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA. We recommend doing so by the priority deadline of February 1, 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 align=\"center\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><b><span>Fall 2022 Bill Settlement<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Payment Deadline<br \/>\n<\/b><span>Please view the bill due date for the fall 2022 semester on the Student Accounting Services\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentaccountingservices\/your-bill\/payment-deadlines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\"><span>page<\/span><\/a><span>. Some financial aid will not disburse until your first day of fall classes. You do not need to prepay tuition and fees if ample financial aid is secured by the bill deadline. If your pending financial aid covers your fall bill, you won\u2019t incur any late fees or holds on your student account. Please visit the link provided or email\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:studenta@bu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"2\"><span>studenta@bu.edu<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0with any payment or billing questions unrelated to financial aid processing.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>When Can I Request My Living Expenses Refund?<br \/>\n<\/b><span>All financial aid (federal and private loans, scholarships, etc) will first be applied toward the balance on your student account. Any excess funds above tuition and fees will be left as a credit for you to request a refund by following\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentaccountingservices\/resources\/refunds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"3\"><span>the instructions<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0provided by Student Accounting Services. Please note, SFS is unable to process refund requests before your first day of classes of the fall semester nor until all documents relating to your financial aid (i.e. entrance counseling and loan promissory notes) are received and reviewed. SFS is also unable to process refund requests until the balance has been paid, whether by financial aid or by out of pocket payment.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 align=\"center\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><b><span>Other SFS Reminders<\/span><\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><b><span>Student Loan Repayment Pause and Debt Relief<\/span><\/b><span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Biden-Harris Administration\u00a0<span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markn2b146hbt\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">and<\/span>\u00a0Federal Student Aid recently announced a one-time federal student loan debt forgiveness of up to $20,000 for qualified borrowers. For more information on the announcement\u00a0<span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markn2b146hbt\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">and<\/span>\u00a0eligibility for loan forgiveness\u00a0<\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/osfs\/resources\/student-loan-forgiveness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"4\">visit our website<\/a><\/span><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As part of the announcement the\u00a0<b>final<\/b>\u00a0extension to the loan repayment pause for federal student loan borrowers will end after December 31, 2022. The loan repayment pause, which began in March 2020, includes temporary 0% interest rates, reprieve on loan payments,\u00a0<span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markn2b146hbt\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">and<\/span>\u00a0paused collection of defaulted federal student loans.
