{"id":87599,"date":"2022-06-30T16:09:31","date_gmt":"2022-06-30T20:09:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/?p=87599"},"modified":"2022-07-05T10:19:47","modified_gmt":"2022-07-05T14:19:47","slug":"c3-kicks-off-the-summer-and-builds-community-at-first-ice-cream-social","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/2022\/06\/30\/c3-kicks-off-the-summer-and-builds-community-at-first-ice-cream-social\/","title":{"rendered":"C3 Kicks Off the Summer and Builds Community at First Ice Cream Social"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students, faculty and staff from across Graduate Medical Sciences kicked off the first month of summer at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/students\/c3center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GMS Community Catalyst Center&#8217;s<\/a> first Ice Cream Social on June 29.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted in the C3 Suite, the social was a chance for the GMS community to gather together, take a break from summer work and catch up with peers. The social featured three kinds of ice cream and a table full of toppings and fruit to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Students from across GMS Master&#8217;s, PhD, and MD\/PhD programs attended the social, and even GMS Associate Provost and Dean Jamie McKnight got in on the fun!<\/p>\n<p>C3 will host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2022\/06\/Ice-Cream-Socials-5.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">two more Ice Cream Socials<\/a> before the academic year kicks off, one on July 27 and one on August 24. Each one will take place in C3 Suite from 12 to 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>At the July and August socials, you&#8217;ll get the chance to meet your brand-new C3 Peer Mentors &#8212; students chosen to be a point of contact for incoming and current students and <span>help GMS to continue its mission of student community, engagement, and learning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Check out some more photos from the June social below!<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since August 2021, C3 has helped students acclimate to Boston and the Medical Campus while adjusting to rigorous graduate school academics and gaining a sense of belonging early in GMS programs.<\/p>\n<p><span>We welcome all GMS students, and we have five specific affinity groups: \u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/gsoc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gSOC<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(students of color),\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/students\/c3center\/gfirsts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gFIRST<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(first-generation students),\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/gmav\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gMAV<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(military and veteran affiliated students),\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/gplus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gPLUS<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(LGBTQIA+ students) and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/gglobal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gGLOBAL<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(international students).
