{"id":81642,"date":"2021-10-08T11:37:59","date_gmt":"2021-10-08T16:37:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/?p=81642"},"modified":"2021-11-07T08:23:20","modified_gmt":"2021-11-07T13:23:20","slug":"dollar-and-ense-october-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/2021\/10\/08\/dollar-and-ense-october-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Dollar$ and $ense: October 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"background: white; padding: 2%;\">\n<h2 class=\"x_MsoNormal\" align=\"center\"><strong>2021-22 COA Increase Appeal Process \u2013 Now Open!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Student Financial Services has begun reviewing Cost of Attendance (COA) Increase appeals for the\u00a02021-22\u00a0academic year.\u00a0You can view the information about the appeal process, qualifying expenses that can be considered, and access the\u00a02021-22\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/osfs\/cost-of-attendance-bot\/cost-of-attendance-coa-increase-request-form\/\">Cost of Attendance Increase Request form<\/a> on our website. \u00a0Please keep in mind these general reminders about the Cost of Attendance appeal process:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are not required to complete the\u00a0COA\u00a0Appeal Request Form if your expenses do not exceed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/osfs\/cost-of-attendance-bot\/\">standard cost of attendance<\/a> for your program.<\/li>\n<li>Be sure to include documentation, as missing or incomplete documentation may delay the review and decision of your appeal.<\/li>\n<li>Not all expenses will be reviewed with your appeal request. Unallowable expenses are listed on the Cost of Attendance Increase Request page (linked above)<\/li>\n<li>A determination with respect to your appeal will be sent to you via email within 10 business days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have any questions about this process, please contact our office at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:osfs-gms@bu.edu\">osfs-gms@bu.edu<\/a>. \u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"background: white; padding: 2%;\">\n<h2 class=\"x_MsoNormal\" align=\"center\"><b><span>Complete the 2022-2023 FAFSA<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span>The\u00a0<\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2022-2023 FAFSA<\/a>\u00a0is now open as of October 1st. If you plan on using Federal Direct Unsubsidized and\/or Federal Graduate PLUS Loan funds during the 2022-2023 academic year (July 1, 2022 \u2013 June 30, 2023), you will need to complete the 2022-2023 FAFSA. We recommend doing so by the priority deadline of February 1, 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"x_MsoNormal\" align=\"center\"><b><span>Free Financial Wellness Resources<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>FAFSA Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) is hosting their 2021 FAFSA Festival on Monday, October 18th from 4:00 \u2013 8:00pm EST. Experts will be available to help students complete the FAFSA via <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">studentaid.gov<\/a> or the myStudentAid mobile app. If you\u2019re interested in participating, <a href=\"https:\/\/mefa-org.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/tZEqdOCrrjovH9WXtwixOAyQr_FQPNCehFuM\"><u>registration<\/u><\/a> is required for the Zoom session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AccessLex Financial Education Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SFS has partnered with AccessLex, a non-profit that offers free financial education programming and resources to help students and graduates manage their finances and loan repayment. We recommend you check out AccessLex\u2019s webinar, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accesslex.org\/search?keywords=The+Road+to+Zero%3A+A+Strategic+Approach+to+Student+Loan+Repayment\"><u>The Road to Zero: A Strategic Approach to Student Loan Repayment<\/u><\/a>. The webinar is usually offered twice a month.
