This philosophy sparked the idea for the Graduate Medical Sciences Community Catalyst Center (C3), which officially launches this week. The center\u2019s goal is to foster holistic success for the diverse GMS student community by providing helpful resources, events, workshops and community chats.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: left; text-decoration: underline; background-color: #eeeeee; padding: 3px;\">\u201cAs we welcome both incoming and returning students back to campus for the fall, we are excited to offer this additional support to our students,\u201d<\/h6>\n<p>said Deborah Stearns-Kurosawa, PhD, <em>ad interim<\/em> Associate Provost and Dean of GMS.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2021\/08\/C3-Logos-636x103.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"636\" height=\"103\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-80782 aligncenter\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2021\/08\/C3-Logos-636x103.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2021\/08\/C3-Logos-1024x165.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2021\/08\/C3-Logos-768x124.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2021\/08\/C3-Logos-1536x248.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2021\/08\/C3-Logos-2048x330.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Students of all backgrounds are encouraged to participate in C3 programming. The center\u2019s five affinity groups are gSOC (students of color), gFIRST (first-generation students) gMAV (military-affiliated and veteran students), gPLUS (LGBTQIA+ students) and gGLOBAL (international students).<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-decoration: underline; background-color: #eeeeee; padding: 3px;\">\u201cWe are so proud of the diverse perspectives of our community and are eager to make sure that all students are comfortable and confident during graduate school, so they feel like an integral part of the GMS community,\u201d<\/h6>\n<p>said Theresa A. Davies, PhD, Director of Oral Health Sciences and Assistant Dean of GMS Master\u2019s Programs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/students\/gms-calendar\/?topic=8533\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><strong>Upcoming events<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for September include walking tours of popular Boston neighborhoods, workshops on acclimating to GMS and Boston, achieving academic success, a welcome from the Newbury Center to our gFIRST students and more.<\/p>\n<p>The center will also host community chats and regular office hours with C3 support members. <strong><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Drop into L306 with any questions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>We encourage interested members of the GMS community to become a faculty or student mentor or mentee.
