The vaccine requirement is an important step to reduce flu-related and other respiratory illness during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<h4>The flu shot requirement applies to*:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>All full-time undergraduate and graduate students under 30 years of age<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>All full- and part-time clinical and health science students<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><em>*The flu shot requirement is for students in BU\u2019s Learn from Anywhere (LfA) Testing Categories 1, 2, and 3.<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">FAQs about the Flu Shot Compliance Requirement<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why are students required to get a flu shot?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/news\/flu-vaccine-now-required-for-all-massachusetts-school-students-enrolled-in-child-care-pre\">Per an order issued by the Commonwealth\u2019s Department of Public Health<\/a>, the flu shot will be required for all full-time undergraduate and graduate students under 30 years of age and all full- and part-time health science (clinical) students at post-secondary institutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which students are required to get a flu shot?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Requirements apply to all full-time undergraduate and graduate students under 30 years of age and all full- and part-time clinical and health science students. These requirements are for students in BU\u2019s LfA Testing Categories 1, 2, and 3.<\/p>\n<p><em>Students that will not be on-campus and are in BU\u2019s LfA Testing Category 4 are encouraged but <u>not<\/u> required to get a flu shot.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>When do students need to receive a flu shot by?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/news\/flu-vaccine-now-required-for-all-massachusetts-school-students-enrolled-in-child-care-pre\">Commonwealth<\/a> is requiring that students receive a flu shot <u>no later than December 31, 2020<\/u>.<\/p>\n<p>At BU, students in L<em>f<\/em>A Testing Categories 1, 2, and 3 will become non-compliant if they do not receive and\/or upload proof of having received the flu shot by January 1, 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do students check their flu shot compliance?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students can view their immunization compliance on the BU StudentLink Compliance page.<\/p>\n<p>To check immunization compliance, students should do the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/bu.edu\/studentlink\">BU StudentLink<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Under the \u201cPersonal\u201d tab, select \u201cCompliance Status\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Locate the Medical Immunization compliance indicator<\/li>\n<li>If there is an \u201cN,\u201d you are non-compliant for at least one required medical immunization\n<ul>\n<li>To the right of \u201cMedical Immunization Status,\u201d select \u201cReview and Print a copy of your immunization records\u201d to see which immunization(s) is missing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If there is a \u201cY\u201d under \u201cMedical Immunization Status,\u201d you are compliant for all required medical immunizations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Are there any exemptions to receiving a flu shot?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Immunization requirement waivers can only be granted under two circumstances listed below. For no other reasons can waivers be granted.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Religious Waiver<\/strong>: A religious waiver is provided by the student documenting their conflict with the requirement due to their religious beliefs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medical Waiver<\/strong>: Physician certification that immunizations are contraindicated due to a prior adverse reaction or current medical condition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What happens if a student does not get a flu shot?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Getting a flu shot is part of students\u2019 University compliance and is tied to registration activity, which includes using the course planner and registering for classes. Students in L<em>f<\/em>A Testing Categories 1, 2, and 3 who do not get a flu shot by January 1, 2021 will not be able to add-drop classes or complete other registration activity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What about students who enroll after January 2021?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New students that meet the above indicated population criteria enrolling between January 1 and March 31 must have a documented dose of influenza vaccine for the current influenza season (along with all other required vaccinations) when they start school.<\/li>\n<li>Students that meet the above indicated population criteria enrolling after March 31 are <u>not<\/u> required to have a dose of influenza vaccine until they enroll in the Fall 2021 semester.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">FAQs about Getting a Flu Shot<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>What type of flu shot do students need?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Any age-appropriate licensed influenza vaccine for the current season fulfills the requirement.\u00a0 This includes injectable and nasal spray vaccine types.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where can students get a flu shot?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students can choose to get a flu shot on- or off-campus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On-campus<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Student Health Services will be hosting on-campus flu clinics during the course of the Fall 2020 semester. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/calendar\/\">Flu clinics will be announced on the SHS calendar<\/a>. SHS will bill your Student Account for the cost of the flu shot.
