{"id":104738,"date":"2025-08-11T08:46:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T12:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/?p=104738"},"modified":"2025-08-11T08:46:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T12:46:18","slug":"dollar-ense-august-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/2025\/08\/11\/dollar-ense-august-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Dollar$ &#038; $ense: August 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><em>Dollar$ &amp; $ense: August 2025<\/em><\/h1>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Aid Awarding Timelines and Updates<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Future Federal Student Aid Updates<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On July 4, 2025, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) was signed into law,<br \/>\ncreating significant changes to access to federal financial aid programs.<\/p>\n<p>Borrowers of Federal Direct Loans (Unsubsidized and\/or Graduate PLUS) before<br \/>\nJune 30, 2026 will be entitled to borrow loans at the current borrowing levels<br \/>\n(both annual and lifetime) for up to three years.<\/p>\n<p>Further detailed information on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/osfs\/changes-to-federal-financial-aid-programs\/\">SFS website<\/a> and in the monthly Dollar$ and<br \/>\n$ense newsletter.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Aid Awarding Timeline<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our office continues to process financial aid daily for all student populations at BUMC. You can expect your aid to be reflected on your MyBU Portal closer to your expected disbursement date, which aligns with your payment deadline. If your aid is not posted by the deadline but we have confirmation of anticipated funds, you will not incur any late fees or registration holds. Additionally, you may be eligible for a living expense advance at the start of the semester.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">SFS will notify each cohort when the advance request forms become available. If you\u2019ve already completed all federal loan requirements, no further action is needed at this time.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Loan Advances for Living Expenses<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Students will be eligible to receive their full available fall 2025 credit as<br \/>\nlong as they have completed all loan requirements, see page 3 for<br \/>\nrequirements.<\/p>\n<p>We are currently experiencing disbursement delays for financial aid.<br \/>\nQuestions about disbursement can be directed to Student Accounting<br \/>\nServices, for those in need of aid for living expenses you may complete<br \/>\nthe form below respective to your program.<\/p>\n<p>An advance is used for 2025-2026 academic year to help fund living<br \/>\nexpenses while fall 2025 and summer 2025 aid processes and disburses.<\/p>\n<p>Requests for living expenses funding will be released AFTER the first day of your program&#8217;s start. Our office will reach out if we need anything else, otherwise completing the above steps are sufficient.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA L7Ipcg\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Refunds\/Setting up Direct Deposit<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Direct Deposits and Refunds<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you anticipate a refund for living expenses in the 25-26 school<br \/>\nyear, please be sure to set up direct deposit using the directions<br \/>\non Student Accounting&#8217;s website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentaccountingservices\/resources\/refunds\/\">here<\/a>. The refund processing time<br \/>\ntakes roughly 5-7 business days.<\/p>\n<p>Please keep in mind that you will receive your living expense funds<br \/>\nonce all of your financial aid has disbursed for each semester,<br \/>\nwhich is estimated to be within the first week or so of the<br \/>\nsemester. For any further questions about this process, please<br \/>\ncontact Student Accounting Services.<\/p>\n<p>Navigate to your MyBU Portal. Click \u201cFinancials\u201d, \u201cStudent Account<br \/>\nBalance Due\u201d, \u201cNelnet Payment &amp; Payment Plans\u201d. Then select<br \/>\n\u201cManage Refunds\u201d and enter your bank account information.<br \/>\nFurther instructions and information can be found on Student<br \/>\nAccounting\u2019s webpage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentaccountingservices\/resources\/refunds\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bill Settlement Deadlines<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As fall approaches, please be sure you have your aid and payment<br \/>\nplans figured out and view the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentaccountingservices\/your-bill\/payment-deadlines\/\">upcoming bill settlement deadlines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Summer Aid<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><em>As we are nearing the end of the summer semester, students<\/em><br \/>\n<em>should contact SFS for any final summer aid questions and<\/em><br \/>\n<em>adjustments and about summer refunds. <\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>GMS\/SPH Summer Aid<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Complete the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/osfs\/summer-2025-federal-unsubsidized-loan-request\/\"> summer direct loan application<\/a>, 25\/26 FASFA and<br \/>\nif applying for a summer PLUS loan &#8211; select summer dates on the<br \/>\n25\/26 PLUS application.<\/p>\n<p>Any students taking summer classes, please be advised that any<br \/>\nFederal Direct Unsubsidized Loans you receive in Summer 2025<br \/>\nmay reduce you 2025-2026 academic year eligibility, dollar for<br \/>\ndollar.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SPH Summer Tuition Merit Scholarship Form<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Please fill out the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/osfs\/ss25-sph-registration\/\"> SPH Summer 2025 Registration Notification<\/a><br \/>\nform if you are a current SPH student and receive a form of an<br \/>\nSPH scholarship and are enrolled in or recently changed<br \/>\nsummer courses. Our office will review your eligibility within 10<br \/>\nbusiness days.<\/p>\n<p>Please note scholarship eligibility may be limited due to the<br \/>\ntotal lifetime limit for your scholarship as noted on your original<br \/>\naward letter.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Student Health Insurance Plan Waiver\/Aid Use<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>SHIP Confirmation Form<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>BUMC students who plan to keep their Boston University Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) for the 2025-2026 year and would like to utilize financial aid to cover this expense should complete this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/osfs\/ship-confirmation-form\/\">SHIP Confirmation Form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Any student interested in using financial aid to cover their SHIP cost may fill out this form, regardless of if you are enrolling for the 1st time or keeping your SHIP coverage.<\/p>\n<p>Please wait to fill out the form until you are sure of the plan you want.<\/p>\n<p>For SHIP information including different plans and rates, please go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/insurance\/\">Student Health Services SHIP resources page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>GSDM students can view SHIP information and rates for 2025-2026, including for dependent coverage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentaccountingservices\/resources\/student-health-insurance-at-boston-university\/dependent-coverage\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Waiving SHIP Coverage<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">If you decide SHIP is not for you<\/span>, you may be able to waive coverage by September 20th. International students may only waive coverage if they are enrolled in a plan underwritten in the US that meets the comparable coverage requirements, although all students should review the comparable coverage requirements. Students are not eligible to waive SHIP based on travel insurance plans. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The SHIP waiver will become available after your fall bill is generated by Student Accounting Services.<\/span> You can access the waiver through your MyBU portal by selecting \u201cStudent Health Insurance\u201d from the left menu, then choosing \u201cWaive SHIP\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>During the process you will be redirected to the website of Gallagher Student Health &amp; Special Risk, to complete your waiver. If your waiver is approved, the credit will be applied to the student account within 1-2 business days. <strong><em>Please contact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/insurance\/\">Student Health Services<\/a> with questions. You can identify your loan servicer <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">(entity that collects payments on loans) by going to the Federal Student Aid website and <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">logging in with you FSA ID.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Financial Next Steps for Graduates: Loan Simulator Available<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA\">Recent graduates are encouraged to use the Loan Simulator Tool on<br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/link?target=https%3A%2F%2Fstudentaid.gov%2Floan-simulator%2F&amp;design=DAGuAcx_iAQ&amp;utl=h4d7967f60d&amp;accessRole=viewer&amp;linkSource=document\" target=\"_blank\" draggable=\"false\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\" class=\"OYPEnA\">StudentAid.gov<\/a><span class=\"OYPEnA\"> to explore federal student loan repayment options and estimate<br \/>\nmonthly payments. This tool allows you to compare different repayment plans<br \/>\nbased on your loan balance, income, and family size. The simulator can help you<br \/>\nchoose the best repayment plan for your financial situation. It\u2019s especially helpful<br \/>\nto use the simulator before your 6-month grace period ends, so you can prepare<br \/>\nand plan your repayment strategy with confidence.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MSR Grants and Permission Forms, SAVE Loan Repayment Plan, and Federal Work Study<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<h3><strong>MSR Grants<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA\">Students living in the Medical School Residence receiving grants who do not yet see their MSR <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">25-26 aid in their BU portal can email osfs-camed@bu.edu.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Student Permission Forms<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"cgHgbA pYZEjA Xp24Nw PanoWQ\"><span class=\"OYPEnA\">If you are planning on utilizing federal financial aid to cover your University billed expenses, <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\"><\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">including any balance incurred by the issuance of living expense advances, you will need to <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">complete the Student Permissions Form found on your student portal (if it has not been <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">previously completed). This form is found under \u201cMy Bill &amp; Aid\u201d &gt; \u201cFinancials\u201d &gt; \u201cStudent <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">Permissions\u201d. This permission allows your aid to cover all outstanding charges on your <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"cgHgbA pYZEjA Xp24Nw\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span class=\"OYPEnA\">Why is this form required?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"cgHgbA pYZEjA Xp24Nw\"><span class=\"OYPEnA\">Federal regulations require that Title IV funds credited to your student account be applied <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\"><\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">only to cover allowable charges, unless Boston University obtains authorization to apply <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">these funds to all other charges on your student account. Title IV Federal Aid Funds include <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">Federal Direct Loan and Graduate PLUS Loans. Then complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/osfs\/federal-work-study-application\/\">Federal Work Study Application<\/a>. The students<br \/>\nneed to complete the link provided in the<br \/>\nemail to express interest in the loan and<br \/>\nhow they would like it to be applied to their<br \/>\naccount. Once the form is filled out, we will<br \/>\nsend students the BU Promissory Note.<br \/>\nOnce the Promissory Note is completed, the<br \/>\nloan will be applied to the account.<br \/>\nEntrance counseling will be required for<br \/>\nfirst year students and students who have<br \/>\nnot received this loan previously.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"cgHgbA pYZEjA Xp24Nw\"><strong><span class=\"OYPEnA\">Signed promissory notes should be<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">submitted to Student Financial Services<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA\">no later than February 15.<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA L7Ipcg\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>2025-26 FAFSA<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA\">FAFSA for the 2025-2026<br \/>\nacademic year is available and<br \/>\nopen!
