Spanning 32 acres, the facility provides unique opportunities for students and faculty members to conduct research investigating topics in taphonomy, decomposition, skeletal trauma, mortuary archaeology,\u00a0 and crime scene investigation. <span>Frequently, our students put their newly acquired skills to work and conduct \u201cmock\u201d skeletal recoveries at our outdoor research facility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Students will complete practical exercises at the facility for various courses including:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/outside-475-x-315.jpg\" alt=\"fieldworks site marked off with crime scene tape\" title=\"outside (475 x 315)\" class=\"alignright wp-image-26553 size-full\" width=\"475\" height=\"315\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Outdoor Crime Scene Investigation<\/li>\n<li>Forensic Photography<\/li>\n<li>Field Methods in Forensic Anthropolgy<\/li>\n<li>Applied Forensic Anthropology<\/li>\n<li>Advanced Crime Scene Investigation<\/li>\n<li>Total Station Mapping Techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Resources located on the property include a ranch-style house with classroom facilities, several small sheds, a large kennel, cranberry bogs, wooded areas and several open fields.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/CSI-P1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/CSI-P1-636x422.jpg\" alt=\"students working in a field\" title=\"CSI-P1\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-26559 size-medium\" width=\"636\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/CSI-P1-636x422.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/CSI-P1-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/CSI-P1.jpg 1430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/a>To date the facility has been used for student research activities and as a training facility for local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Students interested in completing research projects at the facility must submit a research proposal to the Graduate Student Committee for review.
