For more information about this effort through the Office of the Associate Provost for Diversity &amp; Inclusion, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/diversity\/\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Boston University <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eoo\/policies-procedures\/equal-opportunity\">Equal Opportunity\/Affirmative Action Policy<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>includes people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer, intersex or asexual as well as those who are questioning their sexual identity.\u00a0 Although LGBTQIA people are legally recognized, able to marry and more accepted in our culture than they were a few years ago, some may continue to experience social isolation or uncertainty about how to interact with colleagues.\u00a0 Coming out and gaining acceptance from family, friends and colleagues may be accompanied by anxiety.<\/p>\n<p>People who are\u00a0thinking about\u00a0gender transition may need information and assistance in negotiating the process in the workplace.\u00a0 The FSAO can serve as a transitional liaison between the employee and the organization by protecting the employee\u2019s confidentiality while developing a plan and suggesting a time line.\u00a0 The FSAO can also provide training for work groups about the transgender experience.
