Graduate Medical Sciences, as well, is committed to providing this same standard of excellence to all students with documented learning, physical and other disabilities enrolled in degree-granting programs whether\u00a0 part-time, full-time, online or in-person.     GMS Admissions & Disabilities<\/h4>

    The Admissions Office in GMS, in accordance with the\u00a0<\/span>Americans with Disabilities Act<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973<\/a><\/span>, does not discriminate against qualified applicants to any of our over 30 different master\u2019s or doctoral programs.     Student Resources<\/span><\/h4>\n

    Do I Need Accommodations ?<\/h4>

    \nStudents who are interested in receiving accommodations should review the DAS (    Disability & Access Services<\/a><\/span>) website. If you have not had services before sample accommodations include support services such as extra time on exams, a quiet room to take the exam with less distraction, note taker, sign-language interpreter, assistive technology or other support that may include coordination of housing or travel, etc.<\/p>\n

    Students with learning-related disabilities receive accommodations and support to “level the playing field” and provide equal access so all students can be successful. Each student’s services are personalized based on their specific needs and takes into account the Program they are enrolled in and when necessary will work with the faculty to meet the needs of both the student and the Program.<\/p>\n

    Request Accommodations in GMS<\/h4>
    <\/p>\n

    Dr. Laurie Craigen, Assistant Dean, serves as the liaison between GMS and Disability & Access Services<\/a><\/span> (DAS) located on the Charles River Campus. The goal of DAS <\/span> is to provide services and support to ensure that students are able to access and participate in the opportunities available at Boston University. In keeping with this objective, students are encouraged to utilize the resources of Disability & Access Services to the degree they determine necessary.<\/p>\n

    How to Obtain Services in GMS<\/h4>\n

    The Disability & Access Services<\/a><\/span> office (DAS) is located on the Charles River Campus. Please complete the following to gain service.<\/p>\n

    NOTE: This process is confidential. At no time will any student health \/ disability information be shared with GMS, your program director, or faculty.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Complete the BU DAS Application <\/span><\/a>.<\/li>\n
    2. Provide documentation <\/a><\/span> to Disability & Access Services by uploading (with the intake form) or emailing it as an attachment to access@bu.edu<\/a> <\/span>in advance. Make sure you download the appropriate disability verification form<\/a><\/span> if needed and have your healthcare provider complete the form.<\/li>\n
    3. Make an appointment with with one of the DAS staff members on the Charles River Campus by calling 617-353-3658<\/li>\n
    4. Following approval by DAS and the Dean of the School of Medicine, the student is notified of accommodations by the GMS-Disabilities Liaison.<\/li>\n
    5. The student completes the GMS-Accommodation-Release-Form (ARF)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n
    6. Upon receipt of the GMS ARF, GMS-Disabilities Liaison notifies Course Directors of the accommodations<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Transferring Accommodations from BU Undergrad to GMS<\/h4>
      <\/p>\n

      If you are a BU undergraduate and are starting a formal program in GMS (Masters or PhD), or are enrolled in a certificate program\u00a0 or as non-degree student, and had accommodations as a BU undergraduate, you must call Disability and Access Services (DAS) at 617-353-3658 and set up an appointment (remote or in-person).<\/p>\n

      You must request to have your Dean’s letter with approved accommodations sent to the GMS liaison as GMS does not follow the same process as the CRC.<\/p>\n

      Once GMS receives your Dean’s Letter approval, you will receive an email requesting completion of the GMS-Accommodation-Release-Form (ARF)<\/span><\/a> enabling GMS to notify your faculty. You are encouraged to complete this as soon as possible prior to the start of class to be sure accommodations are in place.<\/p>\n

      Transferring Accommodations from GMS to GSDM\/CAMED<\/h4>
      <\/p>\n

      If you are a master’s or PhD student graduating and starting in another program at BU (Medical, Dental, PhD, etc. ) and had accommodations as a graduate student, you must call Disability and Access Services (DAS) at 617-353-3658 and set up an appointment (remote or in-person).<\/p>\n

      You must request to have your approved accommodations sent to your new school. Each school is different regarding how they handle accommodations, especially schools on the medical campus.<\/p>\n

      Please connect with DAS and formally have your documentation confirmed and sent to your new program to be sure your accommodations are in place for your first exam.<\/p>\n
