All final documents, including the dissertation, must be submitted during the last registered semester according to the deadlines on the graduation calendar, and will not be accepted unless all other coursework and requirements of the specific degree have been completed.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Class Add\/Drop<\/strong><\/span><strong>: <\/strong>Please pay close attention to the add\/drop deadlines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adding a Course: <\/strong>Students may add a course via on-line registration or with the Class Add\/Drop Form through the<span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/calendars\/semester\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Registrar Calendar Semester Dates<\/a><\/span>. Some GMS courses are restricted from on-line registration. For these courses, students must submit GMS online Class Add\/Drop Form.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dropping a Course(s):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any adjustment to course loads may increase or decrease the tuition due for the semester. Please contact the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"mailto:GMSRegistrar@bu.edu\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">GMSRegistrar@bu.edu<\/span><\/a><\/span> regarding tuition adjustments.<\/li>\n<li>Dropping all classes constitutes withdrawing from the University. A LOA\/Withdrawal form must be submitted.<\/li>\n<li>Students may drop a course via on-line registration on MyBU following the approval of their advisor without academic penalty or a &#8220;W&#8221; grade for standard courses through the <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/calendars\/semester\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Registrar Calendar Semester Dates&#8221;. <\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Students who choose to drop a course after the designated Without a &#8220;W&#8221; date <em>must submit an online Add Drop form via the GMS Student online form<\/em> webpage. Students will receive a &#8220;W&#8221; grade on their transcript, <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/calendars\/semester\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Registrar Calendar Semester Dates<\/a><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>To add or drop a non\u2010standard course, students should use <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/mybu\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">MyBU<\/a><\/span> to view pertinent add\/drop deadlines because non\u2010standard classes have a customized drop schedule.<\/li>\n<li>If your student status changes from part\u2010time (0\u201011 credits) to full\u2010time (12\u201018 credits) or vice-versa in order to have tuition charges corrected notify the <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"mailto:GMSRegistrar@bu.edu\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">GMSRegistrar@bu.edu<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>For Financial Aid adjustment student must notify Student Financial Services at\u00a0 <a href=\"mailto:gmsloans@bu.edu\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">osfs-gms@bu.edu.<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Federal Financial Aid and Registration<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students may not use federal financial aid towards courses that will not count towards their degree<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Address Change, Payment, Billing, and Health Insurance<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Stipend Checks<\/span>: <\/strong>All PhD students must be registered by <strong>April 28, 2026<\/strong> to ensure that a June 2026 stipend check is issued on time. Students should check with their departmental administrator to make sure the necessary paperwork is in order.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Financial Aid, Fellowships, Scholarships and Deadlines:<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #1f497d;\"> <\/span>Students making any class adjustments to their fall semester schedule will be responsible for notifying the program administrator &amp; SFS for any scholarship adjustment needed <span>at<span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><a href=\"mailto:osfs-gms@bu.edu\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">osfs-gms@bu.edu<\/span><\/span><\/a><span>, as soon as possible in order to establish the student\u2019s financial aid awards.<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Payment &amp; Payment Deadlines:<\/strong><\/span> All students must be registered and settle their accounts by the date listed on the<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentaccountingservices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Student Financials<\/span>\u00a0<\/a><\/span> page.\u00a0 <span>Once you complete settlement of your Student Account, you will be considered officially registered and will be entitled to the use of University services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Billing<\/span>:\u00a0<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span>For individualized and up-to-date information regarding your Student Account, please visit the <\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/mybu\/\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">MyBU<\/span><\/a><\/span><span>. Students should contact the GMS Registrar\u2019s Office or Financial Aid Administrator for any billing error.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Health Insurance Massachusetts Law:<\/strong><\/span> Massachusetts Law stipulates that college students registered must be covered by health insurance. Students registered at Boston University are automatically charged for the PLUS student health insurance plan (<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aetnastudenthealth.com\/en\/school\/711110\/members.html\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Aetna Student Health<\/span><\/a><\/span>). Please contact <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"mailto:insmed@bu.edu\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Ellen Millman<\/a><\/span> in Student Accounting Services for assistance. If a student is charged for PLUS health insurance but is already covered under a comparable health insurance plan based in the United States, he or she may waive the charge on MyBU Student Portal under the \u201cMoney Matters\u201d tab. Waivers should be completed before the payment deadline. Students who have health insurance charge (s) on their bills cannot ignore the charge. The charge (s) must be paid, waived, or removed by <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentaccountingservices\/home\/\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Student Financials<\/span><\/a><\/span> by the deadlines.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">E-mail Communications<\/span>: <\/strong>All important GMS communications are e-mailed to the student&#8217;s BU e-mail account. It is important that students check their BU e-mail regularly. For those of students who wish to have their e-mail forwarded from their BU account to a different account, please be sure the e-mail forwarding is functioning correctly.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Address Changes\/Forwarding Address: <\/strong><\/span>Students may change their address on<span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/mybu\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\"> MyBU<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Withdrawing or Taking a Leave of Absence<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Last day to Officially Take a Leave of Absence or Withdraw from the University for Fall 2026 &#8211; <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/calendars\/semester\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">here<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>A student <em>Withdraws <\/em>from a program when they officially drop ALL courses taken during the current semester and leave their program of study prior to completion of their degree.<\/p>\n<p>A student requests a <em>Leave of Absence<\/em> (LOA) to take a period time off prior to resuming and completing their program. Student may only take up to two semester(s) of a Leave of Absence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Withdrawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A student who wishes to withdraw from the University must follow below procedures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meet with their advisor and program director for approval.<\/li>\n<li>Submit a written request explaining the reason for withdrawal along with the required forms, including the program director\u2019s signature, to the GMS Registrar.<\/li>\n<li>May be asked to meet with the Associate Provost.<\/li>\n<li>If approved, a withdrawal is effective on the day it is received by the GMS Registrar and charges are canceled in accordance with the University\u2019s published refund schedule, based on the effective date of the student\u2019s withdrawal.<\/li>\n<li>Absence from class does not reduce financial obligations or guarantee that final grades will not be recorded.<\/li>\n<li>MD\/PhD students, please contact Dr. Steven Borkan, Dr. Vickery Trinkaus-Randall and GMS Registrar\u2019s Office.<\/li>\n<li>All Ph.D. Students should discuss their situation with their Department Chair\/ Program Director and advisor.<\/li>\n<li>Submit the Withdrawal\/Leave of Absence Form to the GMS Registrar. Students must return within one year of requesting a LOA to be reinstated without reapplying.<\/li>\n<li>All PhD students requesting a LOA and \/or withdrawal from GMS should meet with the Associate Provost.
