All GMS continuing students are required to register continuously until all degree requirements are completed including the final submission of thesis (if applicable). Students planning to graduate must submit a diploma application and follow the deadlines on the graduation calendar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Continuing Students Certified Full-Time \u2013 With Courses:<\/strong> All students continuing in a program who will be registering for less than 12 credits, must follow the registration guidelines above and meet with their advisor\/program director to discuss course selection and obtain an Academic Advising Access code for on-line registration. A Certified Full-Time (CFT) Form must be submitted via the GMS website Student Page online form submission. Students should indicate the type of independent work to be completed during the semester. Please note that specific details of objectives are required including hours per week and supervisor or the request may be denied. Visa regulations require that most International students maintain full-time status either by course registration or by certification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Continuing Students Certified Full-Time \u2013 Without Courses:<\/strong> All students who are no longer taking coursework and are working on their thesis or other degree requirements, must register as a continuing student zero credits. A Certified Full-Time (CFT) Form must be submitted. This form must be submitted via the GMS website Student Page online form submission. Students should indicate the type of independent work to be completed during the semester. Visa regulations require that most International students maintain full-time status either by course registration or by certification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Continuing Students Part-Time -Without Courses:<\/strong> All Part-Time continuing students may register on-line via the Student Link Online Registration for the fall semester \u2013 course #GMS MS 983 A1.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Class Add\/Drop: <\/strong>Please pay close attention to the drop\/add deadlines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adding a Course(s): <\/strong>Students may add a course via on-line registration or with the Class Add\/Drop Form through <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/calendars\/semester\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Registrar Calendar Semester Dates<\/a><\/span>. Some GMS courses are restricted from on-line registration. For these courses, students must submit GMS online Class Add\/Drop Form.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dropping a Course(s):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any adjustment to course loads may increase or decrease the tuition due for the semester. Please contact <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"mailto:GMSRegistrar@bu.edu\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">GMSRegistrar@bu.edu<\/a><\/span> regarding tuition adjustments.<\/li>\n<li>Students may drop a course via on-line registration in MyBU following the approval of their advisor without academic penalty or a \u201cW\u201d grade for standard courses &#8211; <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/calendars\/semester\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Registrar Calendar Semester Dates .<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Dropping all classes constitutes withdrawing from the University. Students should contact the GMS Registrar\u2019s Office or Financial Aid Administrator for any billing error.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Payment &amp; Payment Deadlines:<\/strong>\u00a0 <span>All students must be registered and settle their accounts by the deadline listed on\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentaccountingservices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Student Financials<\/a><\/span><span>\u00a0page.\u00a0 Once you complete settlement of your Student Account, you will be considered officially registered and will be entitled to the use of University services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Health Insurance Massachusetts Law:<\/strong> Massachusetts Law stipulates that college students registered must be covered by health insurance. Students registered at Boston University are automatically charged for the BASIC student health insurance plan (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aetnastudenthealth.com\/en\/school\/711110\/members.html\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Aetna Student Health<\/span>)<\/a>. Please contact <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"mailto:insmed@bu.edu\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Ellen Millman<\/a><\/span> in Student Accounting Services with any questions or for assistance. If a student is charged for BASIC health insurance but is already covered under a comparable health insurance plan based in the United States, he or she may waive the charge on the MyBU Student Portal under the \u201cMoney Matters\u201d tab. Waivers should be completed before the payment deadline. Students who have health insurance charge (s) on their bills cannot ignore the charge. The charge (s) must be paid, waived, or removed by <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentaccountingservices\/home\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Student Financials<\/a><\/span> by the deadlines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>E-mail Communications: <\/strong>All important GMS communications are e-mailed to the student\u2019s BU e-mail account. It is important that students check their BU e-mail regularly. For those student\u2019s who wish to have their e-mail forwarded from their BU account to a different account, please be sure the e-mail forwarding is functioning correctly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Address Changes\/Forwarding Address: <\/strong>Students may change their address in <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/mybu\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">MyBU<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Withdrawing from Graduate Medical Sciences<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Last day to Officially Take a Leave of Absence or Withdraw from the University for Fall 2026 &#8211; <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/calendars\/semester\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">here<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>A student <i>Withdraws <\/i>from a program when they officially drop ALL courses taken during the current semester and leave their program of study prior to completion of their degree.<\/p>\n<p>A student requests a <i>Leave of Absence<\/i> (LOA) to take a period of time off prior to resuming and completing their program <span>(students may only take up to two academic semester\u2019s of a Leave of Absence).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Students should discuss their situation with their advisor\/program director and submit the Withdrawal\/Leave of Absence Form to the GMS Registrar. Students must return within one year of requesting a LOA to be reinstated without reapplying. Additional expansion of the rules governing leave of absences and withdrawal can be found <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/academics\/registration\/rules-governing-leaves-of-absence-and-withdrawal\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc;\">here<\/a><\/span>.
