The internship\u00a0supplements classroom learning, introduces the student to new skills and provides experience beneficial to future career planning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Facets of an approved 2-credit internship include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Internship consists of a project in which data is collected and\/or analyzed for research or statistical purposes<\/li>\n<li>Completed work may be used as the basis for a\u00a0thesis<\/li>\n<li>An evaluation from the internship supervisor describing the nature and quality of the student&#8217;s work and performance is\u00a0required<\/li>\n<li>Students are\u00a0required to write a summary of their\u00a0internship experiences, responsibilities and results<\/li>\n<li>Internships can count towards completion of a track given the internship is within the proposed specialty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Internships may be procured in one of two ways:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Application to an internship position pre-approved by the BMFS Faculty and Internship Coordinator. \u00a0Students are made aware of available positions\u00a0by the faculty. Interested BMFS students may apply for these positions by filling out the\u00a0Student Internship Placement form.<\/li>\n<li>Through\u00a0independent means.\u00a0 A number of laboratories have internship programs and regularly review applications for positions within their laboratory.\u00a0 If the student has been offered an internship position, and would like to\u00a0utilize this experience towards academic credit,\u00a0then he or she\u00a0must immediately inform the BMFS faculty of the position by filling out the Student Internship Placement form.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>During 2022-2024, students obtained internships at the following laboratories:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Worcester PD Crime Scene Unit<\/li>\n<li>Champlain Toxicology Lab<\/li>\n<li>Mass State Police Crime Lab\/Trace Arson Unit<\/li>\n<li>Marion Co Coroner&#8217;s Office<\/li>\n<li>Mass State Police Crime Lab\/DNA Analysis Unit<\/li>\n<li>Boston Police Dept\/Latent Print Unit<\/li>\n<li>Boston Police Crime Lab\/Trace Evidence Section<\/li>\n<li>Rhode Island Office of the State Fire Marshall<\/li>\n<li>New England Innocence Project<\/li>\n<li>New Jersey State Police Office of Forensic Science Central Lab<\/li>\n<li>DC Department of Forensic Science, QA Unit<\/li>\n<li>Zhongshan School of Medicine<\/li>\n<li>San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Internship in Biomedical Forensic Sciences An internship in a forensic setting is encouraged and may be approved for academic credit depending on hours completed and nature of the work.
