Priority for admission into the program is\u00a0given to applicants who\u00a0submit a\u00a0complete application by <strong>March\u00a01<\/strong>. Completed applications received on or after March\u00a02nd are\u00a0considered as they are received. To be considered for September enrollment, applications must be received no later than <strong>July 31.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students admitted into the program must begin their course of study in the fall semester. Students who wish to begin classes during the spring or summer semesters may do so as a non-degree student only and apply for admission into the program for the following fall.\u00a0Individuals interested in completing single courses may register as a non-degree student. Please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:bmfs@bu.edu\">bmfs@bu.edu<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bu-gms.liaisoncas.com\/applicant-ux\/#\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apply now through our online application portal.<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Admission Requirements<\/h4>\n<p>To be eligible for admission\u00a0to the Biomedical Forensic Sciences program, individuals must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Possess a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited university.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is preferred for\u00a0applicants to have a bachelor&#8217;s\u00a0degree in a <strong>natural science<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Students whose\u00a0baccalaureate degree is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> in a natural science <strong>must have completed all<\/strong> of the following courses:<br \/>\n<table border=\"0\" height=\"192\">\n<tbody>\n<tr align=\"center\">\n<td>1 semester<\/td>\n<td>General Biology<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr align=\"center\">\n<td>1 semester<\/td>\n<td>Cell\/Molecular Biology<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr align=\"center\">\n<td>2 semesters<\/td>\n<td>General Chemistry<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr align=\"center\">\n<td>2 semesters<\/td>\n<td>Organic Chemistry<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr align=\"center\">\n<td>1 semester<\/td>\n<td>Biochemistry<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr align=\"center\">\n<td>1 semester<\/td>\n<td>Chemistry Lab<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr align=\"center\">\n<td>1 semester<\/td>\n<td>Biology Lab<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/li>\n<li>Other recommended courses include advanced topics in DNA and\/or Genetics and advanced topics in Chemistry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Optional:<\/em> Submit results from the GRE Graduate Record Examination (General Test Only) or the Medical College Admission Test.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Our GRE institution code is 3087.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Submit a Personal Statement and Other Documents. <\/strong>As part of the application package students are asked to submit:\n<ul>\n<li>A personal statement<\/li>\n<li>Three letters of recommendation from university faculty members who know the student well or from research\/laboratory supervisors\/investigators<\/li>\n<li>A CV highlighting research, laboratory and academic accomplishments and skills (strongly encouraged)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Background Checks<\/h4>\n<p>While not required for entry into the BMFS Program, students should be aware that employment in a crime laboratory or law enforcement agency typically requires successful completion of an extensive personal background check. Such background checks may include a criminal history investigation, fingerprint check, credit history investigation, medical or physical examination, color vision\/visual acuity testing, polygraph examination and drug testing.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h4>International Applicants<\/h4>\n<p>The BMFS program welcomes applications from qualified international students.\u00a0To ensure a successful transition into our graduate program, international students whose first language is not English may be required to enroll in a 6-week intensive English program offered in the latter half of the summer by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/celop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for English Language &amp; Orientation Programs (CELOP)<\/a>. \u00a0Students who participate in CELOP programs in the summer prior to matriculation benefit from\u00a0the opportunity to become acclimated to their new environment, learn useful study habits, and polish their English language before beginning their master&#8217;s level studies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As part the admissions process, international applicants must include with their application:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Official results of the <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ets.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)<\/a><strong>.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">All non-native English speaking applicants must send TOEFL scores, administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).\u00a0The ETS Institution Code for the Division of Graduate Medical Sciences is 3087.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ets.org\/toefl.html?utm_source=institution&amp;utm_medium=ref&amp;utm_campaign=toefl-demandgen-partner-US-con-2025-Q1-10&amp;utm_content=boston-uni&amp;utm_creative=link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>TOEFL<\/span>:<\/a><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>5.0<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>or higher for the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ets.org\/toefl\/test-takers\/ibt\/scores\/understand-scores.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new TOEFL score reports<\/a><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>starting in January 2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>97-10<\/strong><span><strong>0<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>Overall Score on the older test, with a minimum of 20 in each section<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>A\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wes.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World Education Services (WES)<\/a><strong> transcript evaluation<\/strong> <strong>report<\/strong> that converts international transcripts to a U.S. education equivalency.\n<ul>\n<li>The course-by-course evaluation provides a comprehensive record of an applicant\u2019s academic history and must be received by the Admissions Committee prior to application review.
