{"id":25357,"date":"2015-05-13T08:32:33","date_gmt":"2015-05-13T12:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/?page_id=25357"},"modified":"2020-01-09T10:48:05","modified_gmt":"2020-01-09T15:48:05","slug":"details-of-the-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/ttpas\/details-of-the-program\/","title":{"rendered":"TTPAS: Details of the Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>This training program is geared for students interested in\u00a0trans-disciplinary\u00a0training in the Addictions Sciences who are\u00a0<b>enrolled at an early stage <\/b>of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/ttpas\/participating-programs-across-bu\/\">BU doctoral program participating in TTPAS<\/a>.<\/h4>\n<p><b>Program Details &#8211; see <a href=\"#Key features of TTPAS\">key features of TTPAS<\/a><\/b><b style=\"font-size: 1.17em;\"> video below.<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Eligibility:<\/b> The\u00a0program is for doctoral level training in Addiction Science for students enrolled and at an early stage in a BU doctoral program.\u00a0Students will typically apply in their 1st year \u00a0and begin the trans-disciplinary training and research in the summer.\u00a0Details as well as the application can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/ttpas\/application-process\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Degree Earned<\/b>: Fellows in TTPAS will earn a PhD in the Program\/Department of their choice as well as a Certificate in Addiction Sciences.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b><a href=\"\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/SteveSue-2.faculty-student.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"183\" height=\"138\" title=\"Steve&amp;Sue-2.faculty-student\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-26729\" alt=\"Steve&amp;amp;Sue-2.faculty-student\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/SteveSue-2.faculty-student-636x477.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/SteveSue-2.faculty-student-636x477.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/SteveSue-2.faculty-student-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 183px) 100vw, 183px\" \/><\/a>Core Components<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Fellows will fulfill the requirements of their home PhD program<\/li>\n<li>Fellows participate in formal coursework, laboratory and clinical rotations, workshops, and seminars through the TTPAS program that provide interdisciplinary training in quantitative and laboratory-based addiction research.<\/li>\n<li>Fellows together with their mentors (from multiple disciplines) will formulate an Individual Development Plan\u00a0dictated in part by that student\u2019s background, research interests, and home program requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Clinical module enabling Fellows to experience people in addiction treatment\/recovery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/ttpas\/details-of-the-program\/rotations\/\">Rotations<\/a><\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n<p>In the Fall of Year 1 in the program, Fellows select a laboratory of one of the TTPAS mentoring faculty not from the home program to engage in a 10-week research experience. Laboratories include settings conducting \u201cwet\u201d (bench laboratory) and \u201cdry\u201d (quantitative\/computational) research. <b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/ttpas\/details-of-the-program\/clinical-training\/\">Clinical Module<\/a><\/span><\/b> TTPAS Fellows are required to observe and participate in clinically related activities during the first semester of their second year in the program. Clinical experiences of TTPAS Fellows may take place at one of four locations. (1)\u00a0\u00a0The Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs (ADTP) at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.va.gov\/locations\/Jamaica_Plain_.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jamaica Plain and Causeway Street campuses of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Boston Healthcare System<\/a>; (2)\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clinical Addiction Research and Education <\/a>(CARE) Unit;\u00a0(3) The\u00a0Clinical Studies Unit at BUSM\u2019s Division of Psychiatry; \u00a0(4) The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Center for Addictions Research and Services in SSW<\/a> and (5)\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.va.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Depart<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.va.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ment of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System<\/a> (VA).<\/p>\n<h4><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/ttpas\/details-of-the-program\/journal-club\/\">Journal Club and Seminars<\/a><a href=\"\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/Maria-MNS-poster1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"183\" height=\"138\" title=\"Maria-MNS-poster\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-26733 alignright\" alt=\"Maria-MNS-poster\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/Maria-MNS-poster1-636x477.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/Maria-MNS-poster1-636x477.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2012\/12\/Maria-MNS-poster1-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 183px) 100vw, 183px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n<p>Journal clubs are student driven. \u00a0 Fellows select the papers to be discussed, decide on the order of presentation and generally engage in a dialog on recent research. \u00a0Scheduled seminars are staggered with journal club. \u00a0Invited speakers \u00a0alternate from individuals within the BU community to renowned addiction researchers from other institutions.
