Spanning 32 acres, the facility provides unique opportunities for students and faculty members to conduct research investigating topics in taphonomy, decomposition, skeletal trauma, mortuary archaeology, forensic entomology and crime scene investigation.\u00a0 Frequently, our students put their newly acquired skills to work and conduct \u201cmock\u201d skeletal recoveries and crime scene investigations at our outdoor research facility.<\/p>\n<p>Students will complete practical exercises at the facility for various courses including:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2026\/05\/fa5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"534\" height=\"291\" class=\"wp-image-107650 alignright\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2026\/05\/fa5.png 935w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2026\/05\/fa5-636x346.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2026\/05\/fa5-768x418.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 534px) 100vw, 534px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Outdoor Crime Scene Investigation<\/li>\n<li>Forensic Photography<\/li>\n<li>Field Methods in Forensic Anthropology<\/li>\n<li>Applied Forensic Anthropology<\/li>\n<li>Advanced Crime Scene Investigation<\/li>\n<li>Total Station Mapping Techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Resources located on the property include a ranch-style house with classroom facilities, several small sheds, a large kennel, cranberry bogs, wooded areas and several open fields.<\/p>\n<p>To date the facility has been used for student research activities and as a training facility for local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/gms\/files\/2026\/05\/fa6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"675\" height=\"308\" class=\"wp-image-107649 alignleft\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2026\/05\/fa6.png 1081w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2026\/05\/fa6-636x290.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2026\/05\/fa6-1024x467.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/files\/2026\/05\/fa6-768x350.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 675px) 100vw, 675px\" \/>Students interested in completing research projects at the facility must submit a research proposal to the Graduate Student Committee for review.
