Keeping pace with the ever-increasing body of knowledge and new regulatory procedures generated by advances in clinical research is critical to career success. Students participate actively in each course through a variety of means, including online discussions, quizzes, and assignments.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flexibility:\u00a0<\/strong>Versatility is a key feature of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/online\/programs\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston University Online courses and programs<\/a>. Online course materials are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, from any location. Which means that students can learn where and when it works best\u2014for them. Each student determines which hours are best for studying, attending lectures, and completing assignments. Though students must complete course requirements within an established time frame, the actual hours spent meeting those requirements are mostly at the convenience of each individual.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Courses<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The certificate program consists of\u00a0<strong>four online courses<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>GMS CI 675 OL Designing Clinical Research Studies \u2013 Fall Semester:\u00a0<\/strong>This course covers important scientific and epidemiologic principles necessary for designing clinical research studies.\u00a0 Topics include bias, confounding, developing the research question, defining an\u00a0appropriate study population, choosing outcome measures, clinical research ethics and\u00a0regulation, and\u00a0statistical analysis issues.\u00a0[4 cr]<\/li>\n<li><strong>GMS CI 660 OL Good Clinical Practices \u2013 Fall Semester:\u00a0<\/strong>Introduces regulatory responsibilities of sponsors, monitors, and investigators conducting clinical\u00a0trials. Practical information and exercises are designed on GCP compliance from an industrial\u00a0perspective. Topics include: selecting qualified investigators; obtaining ethical approval for patients,\u00a0and initiating sites successfully.\u00a0\u00a0 [4cr]<\/li>\n<li><strong><\/strong><strong><\/strong><strong>GMS CI 640 OL Regulatory and Compliance Issues \u2013 Spring Semester:\u00a0<\/strong>Explains the regulatory requirements for healthcare products, that is, drugs, biologics, diagnostics, and devices. Intended for those interested in regulatory affairs or in the clinical evaluation, development, manufacture, testing and\/or commercialization of these products. Provides in-depth review of pertinent FDA regulations and guidelines and relationship to scientific and logistical activities involved in taking a product from research to market. Content and preparation of regulatory submissions, including an Investigation New Drug Application (IND), and Investigational Device Exemption (IDE), a New Drug Application (NDA), a Biologic License Application (BLA), a Pre-Market Approval Application (PMA), and a 510K Pre-Market Notification are described. International requirements for health care products are also reviewed. \u00a0 [ 4 cr.]<\/li>\n<li><strong>GMS CI 789 OL Critical Evaluation of the Medical Literature \u2013 Spring Semester:\u00a0<\/strong>Provides students experience in\u00a0reading and critically evaluating\u00a0current research published in the \u00a0medical literature pertinent to the origination, design,\u00a0implementation and evaluation of\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0clinical research. <em>**CI 675 OL is a prerequisite for this course.
