Alexis Gavras Graduate Scholarship

Boston University is honored to present the Alexis Gavras Graduate Scholarship Fund, made possible by the generous gift of Haralambos Gavras, MD, and Irene Gavras, MD. Established in memory of their son, Alexis (CAS’93, MET’04), the Gavras Scholarship is available to graduate students at Metropolitan College (MET) and BU’s School of Medicine (BUSM).

Scholarships will support up to two deserving graduate students who are enrolled in graduate degree programs in the Department of Computer Science at MET, or who are pursuing studies in Biomedical Science in Graduate Medical Sciences at BUSM.

Eligibility Requirements

Up to two Alexis Gavras Graduate Scholarships will be awarded to eligible graduate students based on the following criteria:

  1. Applicants must be EITHER native and/or self-identified Greek graduate students who completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Patras in Greece or at any accredited college or university in Greece OR a Greek—American graduate students who completed an undergraduate degree at any accredited college or university. 
  2. Applicant must by admitted to and enrolled in graduate degree program focused on computer science at Boston University’s Metropolitan College (MET) and/or in graduate degree program focused on biomedical research through Graduate Medical Sciences (GMS) at BUSM.
  3. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need, to be ascertained by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the applicable academic year; applicants must provide Boston University with the necessary information to access completed FAFSA data from the federal processor.
  4. Applicants must be making satisfactory academic progress in their programs, as determined by the academic unit(s) and MET’s Graduate Financial Aid office.
