Thank you all for your patience! You are invited to our first (and hopefully last) virtual HIR Student Achievement Day that will span two days. I will be opening the Zoom site at 11:00 AM on Thursday so that you can congregate together and catch up with one another and we will be starting at around 11:30 AM with welcoming addresses from our Associate Provosts and Dean Antman followed by our Keynote lecture (Dr. Maria Millan, President and CEO, California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, “”Regenerative Medicine: Perseverance and Partnership Usher in a New Era”. The itinerary for our days will be posted shortly on the GMS website along with information regarding our award winners! There will be poster sessions on Thursday and Friday following the talks. Friday morning will be dedicated to short talks from our first prize winning students! All posters in our interactive session will be presented as high resolution PDFs and student talks will be in our standard PowerPoint format (8 min talk followed by 2 min of questions).

Dear Students and Faculty,

I know many of you are wondering what has happened regarding our plans for HIR Student Achievement Day 2020. We are all now very familiar with the Zoom platform using it for our teaching and for keeping our communities and lab members motivated in the face of this global crisis. However, using Zoom to host a larger event for 300 or more visitors is another task. After discussion with Ed Media on the best ways to make our Day special for all of you, we have decided to hold the event over two days so that you are not glued to your computer and to move it to May 21st and 22nd so that there is time for planning and for engaging the most staff at Ed Media to make sure that it runs smoothly. Our Keynote Speaker and visitor for our days Dr. Maria Millan has been very supportive and is willing to help us out!

We will continue with the conferring of award winners by the designated April 24th deadline and make sure we are able to get everyone access to their award checks as planned. I will be contacting our GMS HIR Awards Committee for further specific information regarding the award nomination and ratification process. Mr. Jorge Fortin at GMS will be the point person for any additional questions you might have regarding the specifics of our new format as it becomes available.

I wish you all good health and the emotional stamina to get through this period because good times are around the corner.

Much love to everyone,

Shelley

Shelley J. Russek, Ph.D.

Director, BU Graduate Program for Neuroscience
