– Inpatient consults for COVID and non-COVID patients
– This includes questions about any ICU or newly unstable COVID patient and other patients followed by ID
COVID pager – p5236 (reactivated in December 2020)
– Whether to test an inpatient & accordingly isolate/transfer
– Initial workup and management of COVID patients (they may suggest a full ID consult which they will facilitate)
– Whether it’s safe to remove isolation if diagnosis is uncertain (this will get sent to the 3rd team attending)
– Clinical questions re disease presentation
– Where testing is done
– How to do the test (swab)
– Where the sample will be sent and estimated turnaround time
– all other COVID calls not covered above, including questions on COVID-positive or -suspect inpatients not being actively followed by ID consult service

Dear All
The ID group has reorganized their structure to better serve the many questions that arise in the management of Covid 19 patients. They have established a third team that for now will monitor COVID-positive or suspects and help determine candidates for early biologic therapy. This team will also review patients with negative Covid testing who can be removed from isolation depending on clinical suspicion.
This team will proactively review these patients but if questions arise that have not been addressed, please page the Covid pager #5236 and the consult or questions will be referred on to this new third team as appropriate.
Also outlined below, are some useful numbers and guidance.
