It is strongly recommended that the students initiate a<br \/>\n  plan for an overseas elective six months in advance, as logistics for arranging<br \/>\n  overseas electives can be difficult.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>WHAT:<\/em><\/strong> 4-week elective in two to three different clinical<br \/>\n  departments at various Vietnamese hospitals. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>WHERE:<\/em><\/strong> Hue College of Medicine and Pharmacy and its<br \/>\n  affiliated hospitals: Hue University Hospital (400 beds), Hue Central Hospital<br \/>\n  (1100 beds), Hue City Hospital, Hai Lang District Hospital of Quang Tri Province,<br \/>\n  and other regional hospitals in central Vietnam. <\/p>\n<p><b><i>WHEN:<\/i><\/b> HCMP can accommodate most time blocks with the exception<br \/>\n  of July and August. Students must include desired time blocks in their applications.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>CLINICAL ELECTIVE:<\/em><\/strong> Students can practice in two or<br \/>\n  three different departments (Tropical Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Emergency,<br \/>\n  among others) on rotation. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>COSTS &amp; LIVING:<\/em><\/strong> Students are responsible for<br \/>\n  all costs related to the elective. Staff of the HCMP can assist students in<br \/>\n  arranging appropriate living accommodations near elective sites.<\/p>\n<p> <strong><em>LANGUAGE:<\/em><\/strong> Knowledge of Vietnamese is not required<br \/>\n  for most departments and clinical rotations but students will learn more from<br \/>\n  the experience if they are familiar with Vietnamese. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>WEBSITE: <\/em><\/strong>More information is available at the Hue<br \/>\n  College website: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huemed-univ.edu.vn\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.huemed-univ.edu.vn<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p><b><i>APPLICATION PROCESS:<\/i><\/b> Any student wishing to undertake an overseas<br \/>\n  elective must complete a formal application. In order to obtain permission to<br \/>\n  work in Vietnam, students must submit a CV, statement of interest including<br \/>\n  desired time and specialty, a copy of valid passport, a letter of good standing<br \/>\n  from the registrar, and provide satisfactory references at least three months<br \/>\n  prior to the elective. In addition to application materials, students must also<br \/>\n  meet with Dr. Jeffrey Markuns in the Department of Family Medicine to determine<br \/>\n  eligibility and complete a short reflection questionnaire upon return.
