Info pertaining to summer, 2027 applications will be available in the fall of 2026.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Global Health Summer Scholarship supports medical student projects in the global health setting. The scholarship provides funding for first-year B.U. medical students to undertake research, language immersion, or community health projects during the summer between first- and second-year. The project\/program must be completed in a low- or middle-income country (LMIC).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Time Requirements<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Research projects must be at least 7-weeks of full-time work (more is encouraged).<\/li>\n<li>Community health projects must be at least 6 weeks in length.<\/li>\n<li>Language immersion programs must be at least 4 weeks in length.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is some flexibility for the time requirements depending on each situation.<\/p>\n<h4><b>Guidelines for Funding<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Each award is up to $3750 with awards ranging from $1000 (e.g., 4-week medical Spanish program) to $3750 (e.g., 7 weeks of research in LMIC).<\/li>\n<li>Each application is committee-reviewed and the amount awarded to each student is dependent upon the scope of the project, site location, time of project\/program, and budget outlined by applicant.<\/li>\n<li>Funding is weighted toward longer time in country and locations with which the School of Medicine has a prior established relationship.<\/li>\n<li>To be eligible for the GH Summer Scholarship, you must be in good academic standing (perform at a passing level in all courses) and eligible for promotion to the second year. For funding purposes, the review committee will prioritize applications from students who are in good standing, without remediation, after discussion with the SEIC committee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Payment of Awards, Academic Requirements and Responsibilities <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/ghbusm\/global-health-summer-scholarship-program-description-requirements\/\">Click here for more information<\/a> on payment of the GH Summer Scholarship and its requirements and responsibilities.<\/p>\n<h4><b>How to Determine What GH Experience is Right for You<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>\u201cPart 1: The Big Picture&#8221; of the <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.bu.edu\/ultra\/courses\/_215848_1\/outline\">Practitioner\u2019s Guide to Global Health<\/a> will assist you in determining what global health experience is right for you. We require all students who apply to the GH Summer Scholarship Program to <em>complete all parts<\/em> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.bu.edu\/ultra\/courses\/_215848_1\/outline\">Practitioner\u2019s Guide to Global Health,<\/a> a course that prepares students to safely and effectively participate in global health\u00a0 experiences. The remaining parts include: &#8220;Part 2 \u201cPreparation and On the Ground\u201d and &#8220;Part 3 \u201cReflection.\u201d Note: The <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.bu.edu\/ultra\/courses\/_215848_1\/outline\">Practitioner\u2019s Guide to Global Health<\/a> is a Blackboard course for which you must be enrolled to complete the material.
