{"id":8173,"date":"2022-03-23T14:32:58","date_gmt":"2022-03-23T18:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/genetics\/?p=8173"},"modified":"2022-03-23T14:32:58","modified_gmt":"2022-03-23T18:32:58","slug":"dr-farrer-interview-with-cnn-fight-alzheimers-in-your-mid-30s-by-tracking-these-warning-signs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/genetics\/2022\/03\/23\/dr-farrer-interview-with-cnn-fight-alzheimers-in-your-mid-30s-by-tracking-these-warning-signs\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Farrer Interview with CNN: Fight Alzheimer&#8217;s in your mid-30s by tracking these warning signs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, March 23, 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/genetics\/genetics-people\/faculty\/farrer\/\">Dr. Lindsay Farrer<\/a> interviewed with <span>Sandee LaMotte from CNN<\/span>, and discussed about the recent study published in <span>Alzheimer&#8217;s and Dementia:<\/span><strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span>The<\/span><strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span>Journal of the Alzheimer&#8217;s Association,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhlbi.nih.gov\/science\/framingham-heart-study-fhs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Farmingham Heart Study<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/genetics\/files\/2021\/11\/Farrer-headshot-SPH-300x300-2.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Lindsay Farrer\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8058 alignleft\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/genetics\/files\/2021\/11\/Farrer-headshot-SPH-300x300-2.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/genetics\/files\/2021\/11\/Farrer-headshot-SPH-300x300-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/genetics\/files\/2021\/11\/Farrer-headshot-SPH-300x300-2-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>&#8220;What&#8217;s unique about the study is the large sample of individuals that<\/span><strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span>are examined every four years or so, starting at age 35, and followed into the age when an Alzheimer&#8217;s diagnosis may occur,&#8221; Farrer said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the Study, <span>People 35 to 50 could lower their Alzheimer&#8217;s risk by 15.4% if they raised their high-density lipoprotein, or HDL, by 15<\/span><strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span>milligrams per deciliter. People between the ages of 51 and 60 who raised their HDL reduced their risk by 17.9%.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"cn cn-list-hierarchical-xs cn--idx-29 cn-zoneAdContainer\" data-layout=\"list-hierarchical-xs\"><\/ul>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_F4FFC0E3-3B8D-2E7A-B11A-B33EA1F20E33\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_19\">&#8220;The take-home message is that people who are in their 30s and early 40s need to have their lipids and blood sugar measured.
