{"id":93,"date":"2009-12-03T16:24:06","date_gmt":"2009-12-03T21:24:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/?page_id=93"},"modified":"2019-01-04T12:37:15","modified_gmt":"2019-01-04T17:37:15","slug":"grant-objectives-and-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/dom-opportunities\/grants-awards\/grants-2\/grant-objectives-and-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"Criteria for Awarding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The following conditions would make an application <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MORE<\/span> likely to be favorably reviewed:<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong>Applicant\u2019s qualifications<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The applicant is qualified and at the appropriate career stage to pursue the proposed opportunity<\/li>\n<li>Ability to articulate how opportunity will enhance applicant\u2019s strategic career objectives<\/li>\n<li>A clear strategic career plan\/roadmap<\/li>\n<li>Has not received a faculty development and diversity grant in the previous two years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong><strong>Clearly articulated,\u00a0robust developmental network mentoring plan <\/strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The purpose of the FDD grant program is to support faculty career advancement. An integral component of career advancement is the ability to develop a rich developmental network, to effectively mentor, and to be mentored.<\/li>\n<li>As part of the FDD grant, in order to complete the mentoring plan section, please read an <a href=\"\/facdev-medicine\/files\/2009\/12\/Kram-Higgins_A-New-Mindset-on-Mentoring.pdf\">article on developmental networks <\/a>and complete a <a href=\"\/facdev-medicine\/files\/2009\/12\/Developmental_Network-AssessmentKramandHiggins.pdf\">developmental network map<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<a href=\"\/facdev-medicine\/files\/2009\/12\/Example-of-a-mentoring-plan.pdf\">here<\/a> for an example of a mentoring plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong><strong>Institutional benefits<\/strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clear description of how the program will enhance institution (more important for senior faculty)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong>Section support demonstrated in the following ways:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Relief from clinical, educational or administrative duties, i.e. \u201cin kind\u201d support<\/li>\n<li>Subsidizing of training opportunity, i.e. financial support \u2013 typically ~half of the grant (in addition to the funds provided to faculty as discretionary\/GME account)<\/li>\n<li>Unless otherwise discussed with your section chief, a letter of support does not reduce the RVU expectations for your clinical effort<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Craft of the application<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Junior faculty are encouraged to review the application with section chief or with mentor(s)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><strong>Training quality<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Evidence that the educational opportunity is of high quality<\/li>\n<li>Training program takes place after the application deadline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><strong><\/strong><strong>No other funding resources available<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No other resources are available within the institution to achieve the objectives, such as existing grants, start up packages, etc<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Represents a modest amount of monetary support required<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Although there are exceptions, the FDGs typically fund proposals that are $1500 to $4000.\u00a0 Proposals that are too financially resource intensive (translation: expensive) severely curtail this program\u2019s ability to benefit a larger number of faculty<\/li>\n<li>Programs with larger budgets are typically funded by the Dean or Department Chair<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Projects beyond the scope of the Faculty Development Program:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Direct research activities (other DOM programs available)<\/li>\n<li>Sabbaticals<\/li>\n<li>Salary support<\/li>\n<li>Professional society meetings (e.g. SGIM, AHA)<\/li>\n<li>Review courses or application fees for board certification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/files\/__restricted\/entire-bu-community\/KLupton.FDDC-Grant-proposal.1.20.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sample application<\/a> (BU community only)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following conditions would make an application MORE likely to be favorably reviewed: Applicant\u2019s qualifications The applicant is qualified and at the appropriate career stage to pursue the proposed opportunity Ability to articulate how opportunity will enhance applicant\u2019s strategic career objectives A clear strategic career plan\/roadmap Has not received a faculty development and diversity grant [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2127,"featured_media":0,"parent":9998,"menu_order":2,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/93"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2127"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=93"}],"version-history":[{"count":22,"href":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/93\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":9914,"href":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/93\/revisions\/9914"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/9998"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=93"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
