{"id":26,"date":"2009-06-26T14:35:57","date_gmt":"2009-06-26T18:35:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/evanscenteribr\/?page_id=26"},"modified":"2026-04-08T14:13:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T18:13:13","slug":"joining-an-arc","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/evanscenteribr\/the-arcs\/joining-an-arc\/","title":{"rendered":"Joining an ARC and Incentives"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/evanscenteribr\/files\/2009\/06\/arc-logo-blue-198x100.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-12\" src=\"\/evanscenteribr\/files\/2009\/06\/arc-logo-blue-198x100.jpg\" alt=\"arc-logo-blue-198x100\" width=\"198\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a>Investigators from all over BU are encouraged to form or join an ARC, which consists of 5-8 investigators, including from DOM;<\/li>\n<li>The ARC selects its own Director;<\/li>\n<li>Most ARCs are initiated by the faculty, at times with the vision and encouragement of the Evans Center\u2019s Director;<\/li>\n<li>A review panel prioritizes the ARC proposal based upon uniqueness of the opportunity, scientific quality and promise, the DOM strategic plan, potential scientific synergy of the group, accomplishments and expertise of the faculty members of the group, and possible training opportunities;<\/li>\n<li>Joining an ARC after it has been formed is also possible, in consultation with the ARC and Center\u2019s directors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a href=\"\/evanscenteribr\/files\/2009\/06\/arc-logo-blue-198x100.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a>Download a copy of the ARC Grant Application\/Renewal\/Final Report:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/evanscenteribr\/files\/2026\/04\/Spring2026-ARC-Application.docx\"><span>2026<\/span><span>\u00a0Application Form for ARC (New\/Report\/Renewal)<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Download the Conference Travel Award (preference given to trainees):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/evanscenteribr\/files\/2024\/04\/Application-for-Travel-Awards-2024.docx\">Conference Travel Award Application<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Expected Achievements of the ARCs:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Reasonable expectation of continued programmatic growth, and a plan for inclusive and open exchange of ideas;<\/li>\n<li>Extramural grant funding obtained following establishment of the ARC, particularly co-PI RO1 grants, or program projects and training grants;<\/li>\n<li>Successful implementation of a structure to support pre-doctoral and postdoctoral training in content area;<\/li>\n<li>Structure and content should complement and not overlap or compete with existing institutes, units, centers, programs, and sections;<\/li>\n<li>Scientific incubator for basic discoveries with potential application via the CTSI to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of human disease;<\/li>\n<li>ARCs are <em>dynamic units<\/em> &#8211; within each ARC membership can change, based on the ARC\u2019s and Evans Center\u2019s recommendations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Expected Support of ARCs by the Evans Center:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Grant Support for each ARC for 1-2 years (year 3 for exceptional<br \/>\nprogress and promise), pending upon yearly review; the available<br \/>\nsupport should be explored with the Center\u2019s Director;<\/li>\n<li>Travel Awards for PIs or their trainees to present (preferably as a talk) ARC work in<br \/>\nmeetings;<\/li>\n<li>Funds for annual mini-symposia and periodical seminars to enhance knowledge and collaborations;<\/li>\n<li>Administrative Support with regard to ARC budget management, symposia, web site update, etc.;<\/li>\n<li>Successful ARCs could eventually gain a status of a Program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Investigators from all over BU are encouraged to form or join an ARC, which consists of 5-8 investigators, including from DOM;
