The program serves a diverse, inner-city, underserved patient population, and aims to support the institution\u2019s goal of \u201cexceptional care without exception&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Program Aims<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Our trainees are a diverse group of graduates from excellent internal medicine residency programs. They will graduate to become superb endocrine clinicians, clinical educators, and clinician scientists. Our fellows provide evidence-based care for a diverse urban safety net population, tertiary care patients, and veterans in the VA system.<\/p>\n<p>Unique aspects of our program include:<br \/>\n* intensive hands-on training in thyroid\/parathyroid ultrasound and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy<br \/>\n* training in nutrition and weight management<br \/>\n* ability to participate in multi-disciplinary clinics for patients with thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal disease where patients are seen collaboratively with both endocrinologists and surgeons<br \/>\n* participation in a center for the medical and surgical care of transgender patients<\/p>\n<p>Program Aims: By the end of their fellowship trainees will<br \/>\n* develop competence in the management of diabetes and hormonal disorders in both ambulatory and inpatient settings<br \/>\n* be comfortable performing thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration biopsy<br \/>\n* be capable of managing medical aspects of transgender health<br \/>\n* be aware of how social determinants of health influence outcomes<br \/>\n* have pursued endocrine scholarship through a variety of opportunities including participation in research projects and quality improvement projects<br \/>\n* Overall, we aim to train outstanding endocrine clinicians, scholars, and leaders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mission The goal of the program is to provide excellent clinical endocrinology training and broad opportunities for research.
