{"id":6344,"date":"2009-04-14T14:25:23","date_gmt":"2009-04-14T18:25:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm-news\/?p=223"},"modified":"2009-04-14T14:25:23","modified_gmt":"2009-04-14T18:25:23","slug":"red-sox-honor-demierre-as-medical-all-star","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/camed\/2009\/04\/14\/red-sox-honor-demierre-as-medical-all-star\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Sox Honor Demierre as Medical All-Star"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marie-France Demierre, MD\u00a0will be honored as a Medical-All Star by the Boston Red Sox prior to\u00a0their April 24 game at Fenway Park.\u00a0 Every Friday night throughout the season, the Red Sox recognize an outstanding member of the medical community during the pre-game ceremony.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_224\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-224\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/camed\/files\/2009\/04\/marie-france_demierre-md.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-224\" src=\"\/camed\/files\/2009\/04\/marie-france_demierre-md-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Marie-France Memierre, MD (left) receives the 2009 Women's Dermatolgoic Society President's Award.\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-224\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marie-France Demierre, MD (left) receives the 2009 Women&#039;s Dermatolgoic Society President&#039;s Award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Demierre, a Professor of Dermatology and Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine\u00a0\u00a0(BUSM)\u00a0and Director of the Skin Oncology Program at Boston\u00a0Medical Center\u00a0(BMC), will be honored for her tireless community work promoting sun safety awareness and education to children, teens and their parents.\u00a0 She has been at the forefront of diagnosing and treating skin cancer since 1995 and has led numerous clinical trials and research aimed at early detection and the elimination of malignant melanomas.<\/p>\n<p>Demierre is a graduate of McGill University, in Montreal,  Canada.\u00a0 She completed a Dermatology Residency at McGill University Hospital, a Fellowship in Skin Oncology at Boston  Medical Center\u00a0and\u00a0is board certified in Dermatology.\u00a0 In 2009 she received the Women&#8217;s Dermatologic Society Presidential Award.<\/p>\n<p>Demierre is a member of the International Society for Cutaneous Lymphoma and the World Health Organization Melanoma Programme. Her clinical interests include skin oncology, malignant melanoma, cutaneous lymphoma and photopheresis. She oversees the care of patients with skin malignancies, particularly cutaneous lymphomas (both B and T cell types) and melanoma. She is fluent in French and Italian and is a lifetime member of Strathmore&#8217;s\u00a0Who&#8217;s Who<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marie-France Demierre, MD will be honored as a Medical-All Star by the Boston Red Sox prior to their April 24 game at Fenway Park.
