{"id":5473,"date":"2014-11-25T09:43:44","date_gmt":"2014-11-25T14:43:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm\/?p=5473"},"modified":"2014-11-25T09:43:44","modified_gmt":"2014-11-25T14:43:44","slug":"busm-hosts-meeting-of-first-regional-chapter-of-association-of-spanish-scientists-in-the-usa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/camed\/2014\/11\/25\/busm-hosts-meeting-of-first-regional-chapter-of-association-of-spanish-scientists-in-the-usa\/","title":{"rendered":"BUSM Hosts Meeting of First Regional Chapter of Association of Spanish Scientists in the USA"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_5479\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5479\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/camed\/files\/2014\/11\/Cristina-Vazquez_ECUSA-Boston.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/camed\/files\/2014\/11\/Cristina-Vazquez_ECUSA-Boston-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Cristina Vazquez-Mateo, PhD speaking at the inaugural ECUSA-Boston event\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-5479\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5479\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cristina Vazquez-Mateo, PhD speaking at the inaugural ECUSA-Boston event<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Association of Spanish Scientists in the USA (ECUSA) established its first regional chapter in Boston and celebrated the event, \u201cFrom Spain to Boston:\u00a0 A Road to Success,\u201d at BUSM on Nov. 21. <b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b>ECUSA is a network of professionals related to science and innovation that helps its members to develop their careers and create bonds between Spain and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe goal of ECUSA-Boston is to bring together the Spanish community of scientists, technologists and science\/technology teachers, communicators, administrators and advocates working in the United States,\u201d said Cristina Vazquez-Mateo, PhD, president and co-founder of ECUSA-Boston, who also is a postdoctoral associate in the Rheumatology Section of the BUSM Arthritis Center. \u201cWe want to raise awareness of the high-impact work being done by Spanish professionals in this country and establish collaborations with Spanish institutions here and in Spain.<\/p>\n<p>With 200 scientists, engineers, educators and other professionals in attendance, a panel of Spanish professionals including Isabel Dominguez, PhD, BUSM assistant professor of Medicine and co-founder of ECUSA-Boston, discussed their experience in the U.S. system of innovation and research, and offered advice to those interested in developing their careers in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Since its creation in March 2014, ECUSA has organized numerous events related to science and technology. ECUSA also offers an International Mentor Program, in which Spanish scientists living and working in the United States provide professional development advice to Spanish students.
