Beazley, MD, FACS and Paul Tornetta, III, MD, FABOS, FACS have been selected for induction in the 2016 Alpha Omega Alpha (\u0391\u03a9\u0391) national medical honor society.<\/p>\n<p><span>A\u03a9A<\/span> is the only national honor medical society in the world.\u00a0 Its aims are the promotion of scholarship and research in medical schools, the encouragement of high standards of character and conduct among medical students and graduates, and the recognition of high attainment in medical sciences, practice, and related fields. Its motto is: \u201cBe worthy to serve the suffering.\u201d\u00a0 Faculty are inducted with support from <span>A\u03a9A students.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_26585\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26585\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/camed\/files\/2015\/12\/OSA_2014_31a-e1461090645100.jpg\" alt=\"Beazley\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26585\" height=\"351\" width=\"250\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-26585\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Robert Beazley<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Beazley serves as assistant dean for student affairs at BUSM and professor emeritus in the department of surgery. His academic interests include mentoring and advising, anatomy and the history of medicine. In 1998, he was awarded the prestigious Stanley L. Robbins Award for Excellence in Teaching. A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Beazley did an internship at the Baltimore City Hospitals followed by two years of active medical duty in the US Navy attached to the Antarctic Support Activities as the Officer in Charge of the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. In 1966, Beazley returned to Baltimore and the University of Maryland to do his general surgery residency which included a year in the department of clinical surgery, University of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31979\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31979\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/camed\/files\/2016\/04\/COM-tornetta1-e1461090730764.jpg\" alt=\"Tornetta\" class=\"size-full wp-image-31979\" height=\"332\" width=\"250\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31979\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paul Tornetta<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span>Tornetta serves as professor and vice chairman in the department of orthopedic surgery and director of the orthopedic residency training program at BUSM. He is the director of orthopedic trauma for Boston Medical Center. \u00a0He is past president of the Orthopedic Trauma Association and a board member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery.\u00a0 Tornetta&#8217;s research interests focus on the clinical and technical aspects of orthopedic trauma surgery and the injured patient. His research studies include elderly injury patterns, fracture healing and minimally invasive surgery.\u00a0 Tornetta received his medical degree and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at State University of New York \u2013 Health Science Center at Brooklyn. \u00a0He performed his fellowship training in acetabular and pelvic fractures as the Hospital of the Good Samaritan in Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Beazley and Tornetta will be honored at a formal ceremony later this spring.<\/p>\n<p>Submitted by Katelyn Bird, MD.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Robert M.
