{"id":30187,"date":"2016-03-09T11:01:17","date_gmt":"2016-03-09T16:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm\/?p=30187"},"modified":"2016-03-09T11:01:17","modified_gmt":"2016-03-09T16:01:17","slug":"inaugural-town-hall-gathers-busm-staff-together","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/camed\/2016\/03\/09\/inaugural-town-hall-gathers-busm-staff-together\/","title":{"rendered":"Inaugural Town Hall Gathers BUSM Staff Together"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><\/strong>Nearly 80 staff attended the inaugural BUSM <span>A<\/span>ll <span>S<\/span>taff <span>T<\/span>own <span>H<\/span>all meeting <span>held <\/span>in Keefer Auditorium on Tuesday, March 8.\u00a0<span>D<\/span>esigned to provide attendees with an overview of three <span>offices and services<\/span> of which they might not be aware<span>, each presentation was followed immediately by lively Q&amp;A. <\/span>Francine Montemurro spoke about the Office of the Ombuds, Karen Brouhard <span>shared the services provided by <\/span>the Faculty &amp; Staff Assistance Office (FSAO) and Majella Keane provided an overview of the HR Service Center. \u00a0 View copies of the presentations <a href=\"\/camed\/files\/2016\/03\/Majella-Keane-HR-Service-Center-.pptx\">Majella Keane HR Service Center<\/a>, <a href=\"\/camed\/files\/2016\/03\/Karen-Brouhard-FSAO.pptx\">Karen Brouhard FSAO<\/a>, <a href=\"\/camed\/files\/2016\/03\/Francine-Montemurro-OMBUDS.pptx\">Francine Montemurro OMBUDS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After the final presentation Dean Karen Antman, who also served as moderator of the meeting, invited the presenters and three other administrators, Executive Director <span>of <\/span>Facilities John Barton, Human Resources Director Boris Lazic<span> and<\/span> <span><em>Ad Interim<\/em><\/span> Associate Finance Dean Tony Rizzo to <span>participate in a general Q&amp;A session<\/span>.\u00a0 Questions from the audience ranged from specific issues regarding heat, elevators and hot water in <span>M<\/span>edical <span>C<\/span>ampus buildings to more general questions about room fees and measuring the frequency and effectiveness of the services and programs highlighted in the presentations.<\/p>\n<p>Dean Antman closed the meeting by asking staff if they would be interested in having more meeting<span>s<\/span> like the inaugural town hall.\u00a0 <span>The vote, taken by a show of hands, overwhelmingly indicated the desire <\/span>to hold staff town hall meetings twice a year with one combined faculty-staff meeting annually.\u00a0 Suggested topics for future meetings included an <span>financial <\/span>overview <span>that <\/span><span>discusses <\/span><span>past<\/span><span>-year<\/span><span> performance and the outlook for the year ahead<\/span><span> along with how philanthropy and fund raising fits into that <\/span><span>landscape.<\/span>\u00a0 Human Resources offered to create a survey <span>that will be<\/span> <span>sent <\/span><span>to<\/span> BUSM staff to solicit additional ideas.\u00a0 Eight attendees <span>also <\/span>volunteered to work on the planning committee for the next meeting.\u00a0 If you are interested in joining this group or have ideas, please email <a href=\"mailto:busmdean@bu.edu\">busmdean@bu.edu<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly 80 staff attended and voted to plan more meetings.
