{"id":112792,"date":"2023-04-27T09:18:18","date_gmt":"2023-04-27T13:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm\/?p=112792"},"modified":"2023-04-27T09:19:02","modified_gmt":"2023-04-27T13:19:02","slug":"ellen-difiore-announces-retirement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/camed\/2023\/04\/27\/ellen-difiore-announces-retirement\/","title":{"rendered":"Ellen DiFiore Announces Retirement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/camed\/files\/2016\/03\/Ellen-DiFiore-march-2016-e1682524047662.jpg\" alt=\"Headshot of Ellen Difiore\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-30266\" width=\"150\" height=\"174\" \/>Assistant Dean &amp; Registrar for the MD Program Ellen DiFiore has announced her plans to retire, effective June 2.<\/p>\n<p>Difiore has worked at BU in various roles since 1989, working as a research assistant in pediatric infectious diseases, an administrative manager of the Primary Care Training Program in the department of medicine and as a project manager for the Robert Wood Johnson Generalist Physician Initiative. She was appointed MD Program Registrar in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>She received the University\u2019s John S. Perkins Distinguished Service Award and SCOMSA\u2019s Annual Service Award. In addition, Ellen served on the Association of American Medical College\u2019s Group on Student Affairs (GSA) Committee on Student Records and was the secretary\/treasurer for the GSA Northeast Region.<\/p>\n<p>Under Difiore&#8217;s leadership, the Registrar\u2019s Office has provided outstanding service to our students and graduates, implementing many changes over the years \u2013 some at the suggestion of students \u2013 to give them access to the information they need.<\/p>\n<p>Among the changes, the office transitioned from paper records and forms to an electronic record. Students now have 24\/7 access to their schedules, grades and many other services. The office also developed an online add\/drop system for fourth-year scheduling. During COVID when the school transitioned to remote operations, the service level remained exceptional.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been an honor to have played a small part in the success of the 3,800 graduates awarded the MD degree during my tenure,\u201d Difiore said. \u201cI have shared in their triumphs and disappointments and am proud of their accomplishments. The school has been my home and the students, faculty and staff my family.
