Despite the extremely cold temperature and wind chill, Hiebert Lounge was aglow on Feb. 4, as students shared music and dance traditions with peers celebrating at the 5th<\/sup> annual Culture Show.<\/p>\n Presented by the South Asian Medical Student Association (SAMSA), members offered attendees foods associated with cultures of the performances and invited the crowd to eat and socialize prior to the program. In addition, performers modeled cultural attire specific to their performances.<\/p>\n \u201cWe want to encourage students to celebrate their culture and promote belonging within the BUMC community as we don’t normally get the opportunity to showcase our cultural passions,\u201d said second-year medical student Anvitha Sathiya, MS, one of the event\u2019s co-organizers.<\/p>\n Between the performances, Sathiya acted as co-MC alongside second-year medical student classmate Sanil Gandhi, MS. The pair introduced each act and encouraged the audience to cheer on their fellow community members as they performed.<\/p>\n \u201cWe want the Culture Show to be a big celebration on campus. We hope to promote culture appreciation and allow students to develop interests outside of medicine with a platform to demonstrate their talents,\u201d said Sathiya, \u201cWe hope the BUMC community is able to acknowledge and appreciate the diversity and talents that exist on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n According to Student Affairs Office, the Culture Show is typically the largest student-run event <\/span>on campus, encouraging collaboration between SAMSA and all other culture groups <\/span>from the institution.<\/p>\n
