Within an hour, that itch has turned into a full-blown sneeze attack complete with watery eyes and congestion, and now you\u2019re running to the nearest pharmacy to buy some Zyrtec.<\/p>\n<p>Seasonal allergies\u2014or an allergic reaction to the tree and grass pollens that float around in the spring and summer, known as allergic rhinitis\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/climateandhealth\/effects\/allergen.htm#:~:text=Symptoms%20of%20allergic%20rhinitis%20can,year%20in%20the%20United%20States\">affect nearly 60 million people in the United States<\/a> every year. This year, they\u2019re particularly bad in the Northeast, which can be attributed to factors such as climate change and recent dry spells, says longtime allergist <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.bu.edu\/Frederic.Little\">Fred Little<\/a>, a clinical associate professor of medicine and the director of the BMC allergy-immunology fellowship.
