Abel Award in Pharmacology from the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET). Garcia-Marcos is receiving this award in recognition of his high impact and innovative work in the area of cellular signaling.

The Abel Award is named after the founder of ASPET. It was established in 1946 to stimulate fundamental research in pharmacology and experimental therapeutics by young investigators.

Garcia-Marcos received PhD training at the University of the Basque Country in Spain and post-doctoral training with Marilyn Farquhar, a pioneer of modern cell biology and pharmacology. Since establishing his laboratory at BUSM, he has consistently published high quality and innovative work in the area of heterotrimeric G-protein signaling.

His innovations have been achieved through an unusually large and diverse set of model organisms and sophisticated approaches such as nuclear magnetic resonance, protein structure modeling, enzymatic assays and bioluminescence resonance energy transfer. He has been a member of ASPET since 2010.

ASPET is a 4,000 member scientific society whose members conduct basic and clinical pharmacological research and work for academia, government, large pharmaceutical companies, small biotech companies and non-profit organizations.

The associate professor is being recognized by the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics for his high impact and innovative work in the area of cellular signaling.

[89,91
