{"id":82867,"date":"2020-04-15T08:16:10","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T12:16:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm\/?page_id=82867"},"modified":"2025-02-20T12:16:30","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T17:16:30","slug":"busm-covid-19-response","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/camed\/giving\/busm-covid-19-response\/","title":{"rendered":"BUSM&#8217;s COVID-19 Response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Advancing the Science, Prevention and Treatment of Contagious Diseases:<br \/>\nBoston University National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of two national biocontainment labs in the United States, the Boston University\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/neidl\/\">National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories<\/a>\u00a0(NEIDL, \u201cneedle\u201d) opened in 2012 to advance the science of emerging, potentially devastating pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2, the Ebola virus, H1N1 and mosquito-borne viral diseases.<\/p>\n<p>In early 2020, as the rapidly spreading coronavirus was recognized as a global pandemic, NEIDL investigators put all research activities on hold to focus on SARS-CoV-2, the pathogen causing COVID-19.
