Roberts, MD, FACS, FASCRS serves as Chair of the Department of Surgery and senior staff surgeon in the Department of Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts.\u00a0 She is a Professor of Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>She received her B.A. degree magna cum laude and completed her medical degree and general surgery residency at Boston University.\u00a0 Following a clinical and research fellowship in colon and rectal surgery, she has been a staff surgeon at Lahey Clinic since 1988.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Roberts is a member of numerous professional societies.\u00a0 She has served as Treasurer, President Elect and President of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She has served as chair of the program committee, self-assessment committee, awards committee, local arrangements committee, governance committee and the operative competency committee of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.\u00a0 In 2018, she was awarded the Masters in Colon and Rectal Surgery award the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.\u00a0 As chair of the operative competency committee, she was involved in development of the COSATS (colorectal structured assessment of technical skills), a technical skills examination for summative assessment of colon and rectal surgeons. She has chaired the exam committee and the written exam committee of the American Board of Colon and Rectal surgeons and served as Board President in 2009.\u00a0 She has been actively involved in the American College of Surgeons and has been Chair of the Advisory Council for Colon and Rectal Surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Roberts has published over 130 peer reviewed papers, 42 book chapters and edited or authored 5 books.\u00a0 She has served as an associate editor for Diseases of the Colon and Rectum, Clinics in Colon and Rectal Surgery, UpToDate and the Scandinavian Journal of Surgery and is currently an associate editor of the Annals of Surgery.\u00a0 She has been actively involved in education of medical students, general surgery residents and colorectal surgery residents and has received the Sedgwick Mentor\u2019s Award at Lahey Clinic and the mentor\u2019s award of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She has delivered over 200 invited lectures and has been selected for the last 10 years as \u201cAmerica\u2019s Top Doctors,\u201d\u00a0 \u201cAmerica\u2019s Top Doctors for Cancer\u201d and \u201cBest Doctors in America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt; line-height: 16.15pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #4e4e4e;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patricia L.
