Parkinson\u2019s disease is the most common movement disorder. Its effects go far beyond motor issues, often leading to embarrassment, depression and social isolation. Parkinson\u2019s Partners seeks to combat this problem while simultaneously exposing medical students first-hand to challenges that uniquely affect individuals with Parkinson\u2019s disease. Parkinson\u2019s Partners service-learning group employs a combination of group and one-on-one meetings to create relationships between future physicians and people affected by Parkinson\u2019s in order to achieve the following objectives:<\/p>\n

  1. Foster community and social relationships for individuals affected by Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/li>\n
  2. <\/span>Provide opportunities to improve student empathy and understanding of the issues specifically affecting individuals with chronic illness.<\/li>\n
  3. <\/span>Create avenues for students to interact with neurology and movement disorder faculty.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Mission:\u00a0<\/strong>Through accomplishing these objective, Parkinson\u2019s Partners aim to help give future physicians from all fields a holistic understanding of life with a complex illness while teaching the importance of forming meaningful relationships with patients.<\/p>\n
