Its effects go far beyond motor issues, often leading to embarrassment, depression and social isolation. Parkinson\u2019s Partners seeks to combat this problem while simultaneously exposing medical students first-hand to challenges that uniquely affect individuals with Parkinson\u2019s disease. Parkinson\u2019s Partners service-learning group employs a combination of group and one-on-one meetings to create relationships between future physicians and people affected by Parkinson\u2019s in order to achieve the following objectives:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Foster community and social relationships for individuals affected by Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span>Provide opportunities to improve student empathy and understanding of the issues specifically affecting individuals with chronic illness.<\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span>Create avenues for students to interact with neurology and movement disorder faculty.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Mission:\u00a0<\/strong>Through accomplishing these objective, Parkinson\u2019s Partners aim to help give future physicians from all fields a holistic understanding of life with a complex illness while teaching the importance of forming meaningful relationships with patients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Group Email<\/strong>: <a href=\"mailto:parkinsonspartners@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">parkinsonspartners@gmail.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parkinson\u2019s disease is the most common movement disorder.
