Early Identification and Feed Forward Policy<\/a><\/p>\n

Policy Statement<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The\u00a0Early\u00a0Identification and\u00a0Feed\u00a0Forward policy is\u00a0a process for\u00a0identifying\u00a0students experiencing academic or professionalism difficulty or who are “at risk”\u00a0of\u00a0failing to progress\u00a0due to\u00a0academic\u00a0or professionalism\u00a0challenges\u00a0in\u00a0a course, academic\u00a0year\u00a0or phase.\u00a0This process\u00a0allows\u00a0the\u00a0school to\u00a0notify the student and\u00a0provide feedback\u00a0and resources\u00a0to the\u00a0student.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition,\u00a0students with ongoing academic or\u00a0professionalism\u00a0challenges,\u00a0may\u00a0benefit\u00a0from ongoing,\u00a0longitudinal\u00a0support\u00a0through\u00a0multiple educational experiences.\u00a0This\u00a0type of\u00a0support requires\u00a0the student\u2019s areas of growth to be \u201cfed forward\u201d to\u00a0the next\u00a0course, rotation\u00a0director or to the student\u2019s coach\u00a0in order to create\u00a0individualized\u00a0learning\u00a0experiences\u00a0that can target the areas of growth and ensure the student is give the time needed to meet any additional expectations placed on the student\u00a0(i.e.,\u00a0extra\u00a0coaching,\u00a0meetings with\u00a0AME\u00a0advisors\/deans).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0intent of\u00a0this\u00a0educational process is not\u00a0punitive\u00a0or disciplinary\u00a0as\u00a0describe further\u00a0below.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Defined Terms<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Student Early Intervention Committee (SEIC)<\/span><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SEICs are medical school committees that\u00a0meet quarterly to\u00a0monitor\u00a0student progression through the curriculum and\u00a0identify\u00a0students who are at academic or professionalism risk. The Medical Education and Student Affairs Offices in collaboration with course and clerkship directors\u00a0are responsible for\u00a0identifying\u00a0students who are\u00a0struggling\u00a0to meet the academic and professionalism standards and thus progress through medical school as expected.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SEIC recommendations are intended to notify students of identified concerns and to provide suggested or required support and remediation to ensure successful and\u00a0timely\u00a0progression through the curriculum.\u00a0SEIC recommendations may be fed forward to\u00a0AME\u00a0advisors,\u00a0course\u00a0and clerkship directors to provide support for the student. SEPC reviews all SEIC recommendations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
