Although the condition was described in the early 1900&#8217;s as\u00a0dementia pugilistica and later in boxers as &#8220;punch drunk,&#8221; CTE has only recently received\u00a0media attention and major research focus\u00a0after it was\u00a0discovered in professional football players. CTE has been diagnosed post-mortem in military service members exposed to blast injuries, and animal research has found that CTE neuropathology is directly associated with blast trauma.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cte\/\">CTE Center<\/a> is an independent academic research center located at Boston University Chobanian &#038; Avedisian School of Medicine.
