The HPSP is a military scholarship that covers tuition\/fees and provides a stipend for students entering eligible professional schools. Dr. Markenson, a former HPSP recipient, shares his experience and an overview of the program in this informational video. Check out the video below!<\/p>\n<div class=\"responsive-video responsive-vimeo\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"HPSP - Center for Military Health\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/524966531?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><strong>Nov 2020: Three Discoveries That Could Impact Diagnosis, Treatment of PTSD and Gulf War Illness<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Boston University researchers on the Medical Campus are working with collaborators at the VA Boston Healthcare System and other universities to speed up diagnostic processes for PTSD and Gulf War Illness and understand the underlying risks that could compound the effects of PTSD or other psychological disorders to accelerate the body\u2019s biological aging process. <em>The Brink\u00a0<\/em>highlighted the current research findings in the following <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2020\/3-discoveries-that-could-impact-diagnosis-treatment-of-ptsd-and-gulf-war-illness\/?utm_campaign=the_brink&amp;utm_source=email_20201111_faculty_staff&amp;utm_medium=2_must_read_3&amp;utm_content=research_socialsciences\">article<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sep 2020: Changing Policy to Serve Military Moms and Newborns<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Over the summer of 2020, Caroline Slyer (SAR &#8217;20, MPH &#8217;21) worked as a health policy intern at the Boston University Center for Military Health, an opportunity sponsored by the Institute for Health System Innovation &amp; Policy. The focus of the internship was to examine existing health policy for military servicewomen, as well as the gaps in related research and policies. To learn more about Caroline&#8217;s internship experience, please check out her blog post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ihsip\/2020\/09\/22\/changing-policy-to-serve-military-moms-and-newborns\/\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>June 2020: The Center for Military Health Publishes SRM Article on Obstetric Outcomes in Military Servicewomen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Glenn Markenson, MD, Katie Mezwa, MPH, and Lee Adelsheim, MPH, recently published an article in the peer reviewed journal, <em>Seminars in Reproductive Medicine<\/em>. This review explores obstetric outcomes among active duty women with a focus on possible obstetric complications, birth defects, and perinatal psychiatric complications. The review is called &#8220;Obstetric Outcomes in Military Servicewomen: Emerging Knowledge, Considerations, and Gaps.&#8221; You can find the full article <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32588420\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dec 2019: BUMC Faculty Were Awarded a 3-Year DoD Grant to Improve Equity in Prostate Cancer Treatment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gretchen Gignac, MD, Jennifer Rider, ScD, MPH and Christine Gunn, PhD were awarded a 3-year grant from the DoD\u2019s Prostate Cancer Research Program. The project is entitled \u201cGenetic Testing in the Safety Net: Improving Equity in Prostate Cancer Treatment\u201d. Check out the Dec 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/hematology\/files\/2019\/12\/December-2019.pdf\">BMC newsletter<\/a> for more information on the project!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dec 2019:\u00a0Sondra Crosby, MD, Receives Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Sondra Crosby, MD, associate professor of medicine and public health, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for superior performance of her duties while serving as Senior Medical Officer for Detachment Victor, Operational Health Support Unit, Portsmouth, Va., from March 2016-October 2019. Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/camed\/2019\/12\/12\/sondra-crosby-md-receives-navy-and-marine-corps-achievement-medal\/\">here<\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nov 2019: Kimberly Sullivan, PhD, Receives2019 Soaring Eagle Award from Center for Military Health<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Kimberly Sullivan, PhD, research assistant professor of environmental health at BU School of Public Health has received the 2019 Soaring Eagle Award given annually by the Strategic Advisory Board of the BU Center for Military Health (formerly known as BU Center for Military and Post Deployment Health) to an individual who has made significant contributions to the health of our nation\u2019s Veterans and active duty military members through innovation and advances in clinical care, research, education or public advocacy.
