{"id":1413,"date":"2015-05-19T13:59:35","date_gmt":"2015-05-19T17:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/camed\/?page_id=1413"},"modified":"2025-02-10T10:38:06","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T15:38:06","slug":"metabolic-phenotyping-core","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/camed\/research-impact\/cores\/metabolic-phenotyping-core\/","title":{"rendered":"Metabolic Phenotyping Core"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the <strong>Metabolic Phenotyping Core (MPC)<\/strong> at Boston University Medical Campus.\u00a0MPC at Boston University Medical Campus provides experimental testing services to researchers (inside and outside Boston University) studying metabolic diseases in mouse models.<\/p>\n<p>The MPC is able to perform the following services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assessment of body composition including fat mass, lean tissue mass, free water, and total body water by non-invasive quantitative magnetic resonance (Echo MRI 700).<\/li>\n<li>Measurement of basal metabolic rate (respiratory exchange ratios) and spontaneous physical activity using a comprehensive laboratory animal monitoring system (CLAMS, Columbus Instruments) consisting of open circuit calorimeter &amp; motion detectors.<\/li>\n<li>Assessment of Maximal Exercise Capacity using progressive treadmill regimens in conjunction, if needed, with an Oxymax system for minute-by-minute monitoring of oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production during exercise.<\/li>\n<li>Provision of thermoneutral environment chambers (30\u00b0C) for mouse studies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"tableScroll\"><div>\n<table border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"background-color: #575759;\" valign=\"middle\" align=\"left\">\n<td style=\"text-align: center; For new users please follow the steps outlined in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/camed\/research\/cores\/accessing-cores\/information-for-new-users\/\">Information for New Users<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Important information for External Investigators<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We strongly recommend external users to plan their studies <em>at <strong>least 1-2 months in advance<\/strong><\/em>.
